Community Highlights: Meet Jake Knows IT of JakeKnowsIT.com

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jake Knows IT.

Jake, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
JakeKnowsIT is a tech concierge service — and I use that word intentionally. Think about the concierge at a Marriott or a Hilton. You walk up, you ask for help, they take care of it, and you go on with your day. You don’t sign a contract. You don’t get locked into a monthly subscription. You pay for the help you need, when you need it, and that’s it.

That’s exactly how JakeKnowsIT works. We specialize in helping seniors and everyday people navigate technology without the stress, the jargon, or the fear of being taken advantage of. Whether it’s setting up a new printer, transferring photos to a new phone, cleaning up a slow computer, or figuring out if that email from “Microsoft” is actually a scam — we’re the calm, patient voice on the other end who actually knows what we’re talking about.

What sets us apart is the approach. We built the entire experience around accessibility and trust. When you visit jakeknowsit.com, you can start with a quick AI-powered chat for as little as $7 — and if you need a real human expert, you can escalate to a live chat, a phone call, or even a remote session where we fix it right in front of you. Every step has clear pricing. No surprises, no upsells, no “gotcha” moments. That matters when you’re serving a generation that’s been burned by confusing tech support contracts and scare-tactic pop-ups.

What I’m most proud of is what we’re building beyond just tech support. We publish free guides on our site to help people protect themselves before they ever need to call us. And we’re developing ScamShield — a tool specifically designed to help seniors identify and avoid cyber scams, which have increased at an alarming rate over the past five years. This isn’t just a business to me. After 25 years in IT, I’ve seen how technology can either empower people or intimidate them. JakeKnowsIT exists to make sure it’s always the first one.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life isn’t life without struggles — and no, it hasn’t always been a smooth road.

I’ve been told two things my entire life. The first is, “God doesn’t give us anything we can’t handle.” To which I always reply — He must think I’m a badass, because I’ve been dealt a lot. Most of those challenges hit during the early years of Just Geek IT. Building a business from scratch will test you in ways you can’t prepare for. There were seasons where the only thing keeping the doors open was pure stubbornness and the refusal to go back to working for someone else.

But the last few years? Turbulence-free — knock on wood. And I don’t take that lightly.

What those early struggles gave me, more than anything, was patience. And that brings me to the second thing I hear all the time: “Jake, you have more patience than anyone I’ve ever met.” There isn’t a whole lot that upsets me or throws off my day anymore. IT work has a way of doing that to you — it either burns you out of the field entirely, or it teaches you a level of patience most people never develop. I’m grateful it was the second one, because that patience is the foundation of everything I’m building with JakeKnowsIT.

As you know, we’re big fans of JakeKnowsIT.com. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is hard to put a gauge on because it’s different for everyone — and honestly, my own definition of it has changed dramatically over the years.

Just getting out of high school was a huge success for me. Then graduating from college became the new bar. Then it was landing my first customer, surviving my first year of business, and eventually being named Business of the Year in Houston for IT. Every stage felt like the mountaintop — until the next one showed up.

But as I’ve gotten older, the focus shifts. It becomes less about your success and more about the success of your kids — and one day, your grandkids. Watching my daughter work, save, and earn her way to Japan as an exchange student? That’s a success to me. Seeing her mom lead her, mother her, nurture her — and watching the two of them operate as a team? That’s success for both of them.

On the business side, success with JakeKnowsIT is about legacy. I want to build something that outlasts me — something that serves my family and something that genuinely makes life easier for the people who are growing older in a world that keeps moving faster. If I can do that, I’ve succeeded.
