Today we’d like to introduce you to Joel Rodriguez.
Hi Joel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story is really about hard work, growth, community, and learning how to turn passion into purpose. Growing up in Texas, I was heavily involved in martial arts through Al Garza’s Martial Arts, now Al Garza’s Premier Martial Arts. That experience shaped a huge part of who I am today. Traveling throughout Texas for competitions, helping teach classes at a young age, and being surrounded by strong mentors taught me discipline, leadership, confidence, and work ethic early in life.
As I got older, I carried those same values into my professional life and entrepreneurial journey. Over the years, I built experience in operations management, technology support, graphics and signage, customer service, and business development. Eventually, that experience led me to build and operate several businesses including Coastal Honey, Vinyl EFX, and Tactical-15.
What connects all of these businesses is a passion for creating something meaningful, helping people, and building strong relationships within the community. Whether it’s safely relocating bees, helping businesses grow through signage and branding, or providing professional customer service in specialized industries, I’ve always believed in doing things the right way and treating people with respect.
Community involvement has also played a major role in my life. Through organizations, volunteer work, and various citizens academies, I’ve had the opportunity to meet incredible people and continue learning from leaders throughout Texas. Those experiences reinforced how important it is to give back, stay connected, and continue growing both personally and professionally.
At the end of the day, my story is still being written. I’m always looking for ways to improve, build stronger businesses, support my community, and leave a positive impact on the people around me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road. Like most entrepreneurs and small business owners, there have been plenty of challenges along the way. Building businesses from the ground up takes a lot of time, sacrifice, and persistence, especially when you’re balancing multiple responsibilities at once.
One of the biggest struggles has been wearing so many hats — handling operations, customer service, marketing, scheduling, finances, and day-to-day production all at the same time. There were also times where growth happened faster than expected, which sounds great, but it can create its own challenges with time management, staffing, and scaling properly.
Another challenge has been learning industries through real-world experience instead of taking a traditional path. A lot of what I’ve built came through trial and error, long hours, networking, and constantly adapting. You learn quickly that setbacks, unexpected expenses, and difficult projects are all part of the process.
At the same time, those struggles helped shape who I am today. They taught me resilience, problem-solving, and the importance of building strong relationships and maintaining a good reputation. Looking back, the difficult moments were often the biggest learning experiences and helped push both me and my businesses to the next level.

My businesses are all built around quality work, strong relationships, and serving the local community. While each company operates in a different industry, they all share the same mindset — professionalism, creativity, attention to detail, and genuine customer service.
Coastal Honey specializes in raw local Texas honey and live bee relocation services. We focus on safely relocating bees instead of exterminating them whenever possible, while also educating people on the importance of pollinators. Our honey is harvested locally, and we’ve worked hard to build a brand that reflects both Texas pride and a clean coastal style that stands out from traditional honey brands.
Vinyl EFX focuses on custom signage, vehicle graphics, banners, business branding, and visual marketing solutions for businesses and organizations. What sets us apart is our hands-on approach and ability to combine creativity with real-world production knowledge to help customers bring their ideas to life.
Tactical-15 focuses on firearms transfers, accessories, and customer service within the firearms industry. We strive to provide a professional, approachable experience while helping customers navigate products, transfers, and services responsibly and legally.
What I’m most proud of overall is building brands that people recognize for honesty, reliability, and personal service. A lot of our growth has come through word of mouth, repeat customers, and relationships within the community. I want readers to know that behind every business is a real passion for helping people, continuously improving, and building something that lasts.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories was taking martial arts lessons at what was known back then as Al Garza’s American Karate Club, now called Al Garza’s Premier Martial Arts. Martial arts became a huge part of my life growing up. One of the things I loved most was getting the opportunity to travel and compete throughout the state of Texas almost every weekend as part of one of the top-rated teams in the state for consecutive years.
What made it even more meaningful was that martial arts gave me opportunities and experiences that many teenagers normally wouldn’t have. While a lot of kids my age were working traditional fast-food jobs after school, I was helping teach martial arts classes, training, competing, and traveling across Texas with teammates, instructors, and family. Those experiences taught me discipline, confidence, teamwork, leadership, and work ethic at a very young age.
Along with family vacations and traveling, those years created memories and life lessons that still influence who I am today, both personally and professionally.
