Community Highlights: Meet Johnathan Mark of Trill On Wheels

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnathan Mark

Hi Johnathan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Trill On Wheels is the country’s first Hip-Hop themed party bike tour, based in the historic Third Ward neighborhood, EADO, and expansion plans to Fourth Ward. The tour experience blends the artistry of Houston-born & bred entertainers with light fitness. While pedaling the 13-15 seater motorized party bikes throughout the tour routes, riders can fully immerse themselves in Houston culture while learning more about the communities that make our city shine.

The success of Trill On Wheels is not just a business triumph but a beacon of hope for the broader community. As the business flourishes and attracts more visitors, it creates economic opportunities for local vendors and employment opportunities for residents. The team, now over 20 strong, is a testament to this. The 30,000 tourists who have experienced this unique tour have contributed over $700,000 to neighboring businesses in just under 3 years, revitalizing the local economy.

Johnathan and his team actively collaborate with local organizations, schools, and initiatives. Through his charitable collaborations with local organizations such as Good Reason Houston, Emerging 100, and Houston Morehouse Alumni Association, his company has connected individuals in the Third Ward community to vital resources. These organizations have a dedicated focus on services like job training, education, and healthcare resources, and Trill On Wheels has shown strong support to push them forward in their causes. Because of these community initiatives, Trill On Wheels was fortunate to receive a $98,400 grant from Houston Equity Fund to show their appreciation for giving back to the community, commitment to social justice and economic equity.

Johnathan’s commitment to mentorship and community upliftment is not just a part of his life but a guiding principle. As a proud member of Emerging 100 Houston and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., he is dedicated to mentoring young black men and fostering their growth and development. His active involvement at Higher Dimension Church and his role as a loving husband and father of two further testify to his commitment to his faith and family.
Johnathan’s leadership philosophy is rooted in hustle, innovation, and the pursuit of epicness. He fosters a culture of mentorship, teamwork, and personal development within his organization, providing his team with free mental health resources, volunteer opportunities, and fitness challenges. His commitment to building with heart and openness to diverse ideas make him a truly exceptional leader.

Before founding Trill On Wheels, Johnathan previously worked as a Communication Strategist for a prestigious ad agency in San Francisco, which would later lead to a Sales position at Pandora Media Inc. During this period, he spearheaded campaigns for large multinational corporations such as McDonald’s, Dr. Pepper, and Ford. Johnathan’s talents would eventually lead to a position as a Regional Events Manager for Uber, where he coordinated marketing initiatives at various concerts and festivals across the US. Once he and his wife had their first child, Johnathan decided to look at a possible other revenue for money to provide for his family and thus Trill On Wheels came to the light.

In addition to his professional achievements, Johnathan’s interests and values reflect his deep connection to Houston and its vibrant culture. From enjoying business lunches at Mo Better Brews to cheering on the Houston Texans to showing his appreciation for Houston Hip-Hop at DJ showcases, Johnathan embodies the spirit of Houston and its resilient, diverse community, which has set the foundation for a successful tenure leading Trill On Wheels.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been an easy road for Johnathan, but with his amazing leadership philosophy he paved his way to success. Johnathan’s leadership philosophy is rooted in hustle, innovation, and the pursuit of epicness. Trill On Wheels did not start out as a Houston tourist attraction. He had to build everything up from scratch, especially being the first Hip Hop bike tour attraction owned by an African American across the country. With Johnathan’s background as a communication strategist and in sales, he took his knowledge in how to bring more visibility to his brand and ran with it.
