Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Fuselier.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
First, I would like to thank Voyage Houston for choosing me as a subject for an inspiration piece. I honestly started posting my business to the public as a way of showing credibility. I had no idea I would receive messages from those I had inspired to start a vending business and had questions, or end up doing an interview. My business is new, I started in December. My fiancé and I had our first child and I knew I would need to find a way to replace her income for a while. Although I haven’t quite accomplished that goal I have been able to turn $1,200 into a mostly passive, monthly income of $300 with this month on track to do $600. It’s not much but it could be used to take care of a bill or two and fund growth. I had learned about the vending business from social media and ended up researching the idea on YouTube. It seemed like something that would be perfect for my situation. I searched for a while for vending machines I could afford and learning what is a good brand and price. While doing that, I found myself in back and forth contact with an LLC that was selling a location. I was in talks to buying it and eventually the owner grew to admire my desire to get started in the business and offered me a machine and location. A perfect turnkey business. Only problem was this was listed for $4,800 and all I had was $1,200 in a couple of stocks that I could sell. I told him it was all I had but He could have the profits until the machine is paid off. He agreed and even lowered the price to $3,500, we drafted a contract, and here I am today. The machine is half way paid off and I’m excited to grow and get another location.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
My machine was bought with my location but it wasn’t already on the property. I had to have it moved, which was done as part of the deal, however when you move machines sometimes things get knocked out of whack. So for a while, I have dealt with the coin mechanism not working, the card reader not connecting and a top shelf that gives away free products. These problems are fixed now but it has been a lot of trips to the location and a lot of missed revenue.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I plan to go from 1 location to 5 and build a passive income that can fuel ventures into more passive income businesses like laundromats and car washes.
