Today we’d like to introduce you to Jzmyne Flakes.
Hi Jzmyne, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been a Makeup Artist for about 7 years now. I started out being in the cosmetology program at my high school, Sterling High School. Of course, I was studying to become a hairstylist, but deep down I always knew I had a passion for makeup. As a little girl, I would play in my mom’s makeup on her bathroom sink, not even knowing what was what. I always loved how pretty women were when their makeup was done, and I wanted that look! I started going on YouTube and watching makeup tutorials, I then started noticing all of the different products that were being used. Then, I would sneak into my mom’s makeup and see what products she doesn’t use so I could practice on myself lol. Once I felt confident in my skills, I started wearing my makeup to school, and honestly, everything started to change.
Many of my peers started noticing that I was coming to school with my makeup done, and wanted theirs done too! I would come to school early, before school started & we’d be in the bathrooms getting BEAT! Believe it or not, there were even teachers that wanted me to do their eyebrows sometimes, or as they like to call it, a “light beat” lol. Even when we had little events at school like homecoming dances, football games, you need your makeup done? Go ask Jazz! I even joined the dance team at school and of course was responsible for the team’s makeup. Once I graduated, I had to sit down and tell myself, Jzmyne you have a gift, and you need to take it seriously!
I started to follow my passion, and I told myself I would always keep working at it, no matter where it took me! I feel like all those experiences made me the Makeup Artist I am today. I now work in a salon in the Southwest Houston Area, BayBay’s 1 Stop Shop. I specialize in Full Glams, Natural Glams, and Bridal Makeup. I’m also a travel Makeup Artist, so anywhere my clients need me, I’m there! I absolutely love what I do, and seeing my clients’ faces when they look at the transformation literally warms my heart. And having the opportunity to meet so many beautiful people is a blessing! I’m forever grateful for being able to walk in my purpose.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been everything but smooth! Being in the beauty industry, I feel it’s easy to get discouraged because it’s like, there’s so many makeup artists in my city who are better than me, how will I get clients in my chair?! How will I get people to honestly just give me a chance? The only answer is to KEEP GOING! Keep promoting your work on ALL PLATFORMS. Don’t be afraid to reach out to people and tell them about yourself and your business. Get business cards and literally drop cards in every building you go in, pass them out to EVERYONE! And when you feel like you’re still not getting any recognition, GO HARDER! Keep practicing, and perfect your craft! I’ve had to give myself pep talks to keep me motivated. There were times I prayed and cried because I wanted the exposure so bad, but in talking to God I also had to realize, you have to be ready to receive what’s in store! Because it honestly only takes that one client to get serviced, they love your work, they’ll go tell everyone about you, and your journey can literally change overnight!

Jazzy La’Glamm Makeup Artistry is my pride and joy! I specialize in Full Glam makeup, Bridal makeup, and everyone’s favorite application, my signature “Naked Glam”, which is a Natural but full coverage makeup application. Perfect for those who want the glam look, but are apprehensive about colors, coverage, etc. I also offer wig installation services, as well as a service package to get your wig installed and makeup done in the same sitting! Who doesn’t love that?! When it comes to my clients, I love to build personal relationships! I love to build trust with them and I feel like that’s what sets me apart from others. So many women are self-conscious about their appearance, skin, and a lot of other things. I love to make sure my clients see the beauty in themselves as I do, because I always say, the beauty is already there, I’m just enhancing it.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love everything about our city! One of the biggest things I love is the people! Everyone is so hospitable and friendly, and it’s so easy to make friends, and network. And everyone has a hustle, and is so willing to support and uplift each other, and that’s awesome!
