Today we’d like to introduce you to Karian Durham
Hi Karian, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From a young age, I found joy in organizing events and bringing people together. This passion inspired me to create The Anderson HTX, a venue designed for creativity and connection. I’ve worked hard to cultivate a welcoming atmosphere where innovation thrives. Every detail, from layout to decor, enhances the experience for our guests. Today, The Anderson HTX reflects my dedication, serving as a vibrant hub for ideas and community. This journey has been fulfilling, as I witness the magic of gatherings in a space meant for creativity and celebration, building community and lasting memories.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t been easy. The journey to establish The Anderson HTX was fraught with challenges. It took over two years to find the perfect location, and when I did, it was merely a shell space requiring a complete build-out. I personally sketched the layout, collaborated closely with a contractor, and meticulously selected every piece of décor. Just as we were preparing to open, disaster struck—first a tornado, followed by a hurricane, causing significant damage to our venue. Additionally, dealing with the city’s inspection process was frustrating, as different inspectors had varying requirements, forcing us to make continuous updates. Despite these hurdles, we persevered and eventually opened our doors to the community.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At The Anderson HTX, creativity and connection are at the heart of everything we do. As a versatile event venue, we are known for hosting unique social gatherings that encourage networking and community building. What sets us apart is our commitment to not only providing a space but also creating events that inspire and unite people. Beyond The Anderson HTX, I am a licensed esthetician and the owner of Komplexx Blends Cosmetics, offering personalized beauty solutions. Through KD Marketing and Event Consulting, I provide expert guidance in crafting memorable events. Additionally, I run the Sallie Virginia Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to raising Parkinson’s awareness in the Black community. My diverse ventures all intertwine, reflecting my passion for empowering individuals and fostering connections. I am most proud of how each business contributes to a larger mission of innovation, support, and inclusivity.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising that most people who know me or my work might not realize is that I am a Virgo, and my mind is always buzzing with ideas. Even when I declare that I’m taking a break from curating events, I somehow end up crafting five more. It’s like my creative process is on autopilot, and I can’t help but dive into new projects.
What’s even more surprising is how much of a family endeavor this has become. I often enlist my daughter and the rest of my family to help out, turning event production into a collaborative effort. Whether it’s capturing content or setting up the venue, it’s truly a family affair. This dynamic not only strengthens our bond but also infuses every event with a personal touch that resonates with our guests.
