Community Highlights: Meet Karla of Houston Association of Realtors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karla.

Hi Karla, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am Karla Serna Arellano, a Mexican native from the mountains of Nayarit, Mexico. Watching my family work hard and sacrifice everything to build life from the ground up taught me the values of perseverance, to go on no matter what. It definitely shaped who I am today as it instilled a strong worth ethic, deep appreciation for opportunity, and helping others. My journey inspired me to pursue a career where I could help others achieve one of the biggest milestones in life, homeownership. I have a special passion for assisting veterans and first-time home buyers with honesty, compassion, and personalized support. For me, real estate is more than just buying or selling homes, it is about helping people build a foundation for their future, just as my family worked so hard to build ours.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
While my journey has been rewarding, it hasn’t been without challenges. As an immigrant, adapting to a new culture and overcoming language barriers came with its own obstacles. Growing up, my parents where often taken advantage off due to their unfamiliarity of their environment. With that being said, my goal has always been to remain honest and transparent through my career in real estate no matter how competitive the industry may get. I have also learned to balance motherhood while building my real estate career. Mother first, entrepreneur right after.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Houston Association of Realtors?
Today, I am proud to be a bi-lingual real estate agent within The Agency Team Houston. I help educate and guide homebuyers during the buying process from start to finish. In today’s industry, success also depends on maintaining a strong presence on social media. Part of my job also involves creating informative content for potential future clients which has sparked my social media creativity. Social media has been an important part of my real estate journey as it has allowed me to showcase my personality and establish connections before meeting any client in person. I have built strong meaningful relationships throughout my career that I still cherish until today.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Working in a very diverse city, learning never stops. Life is about moving forward and being better than who you were yesterday. I definitely see myself keeping up with the momentum and becoming more knowledgeable in every aspect of real estate. Networking has become a big part of my life, and I hope to continue to grow connections with more fellow entrepreneurs.
