Community Highlights: Meet Kayla Sinisterra of Naturally Raw Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Sinisterra.

Kayla, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my business right after the pandemic. Having a business to where all people can come and feel comfortable getting their hair done was a big goal for me. I have been in business for over a year now doing silk press, locs, kids, braids, and a lot more. Has it been easy running a business? Not at all, but I know I can’t give up, especially on my clients I have grown a beautiful relationship with.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t. Building clientele is not easy during a pandemic. Not being able to walk up to people has slowed me down. I use social media and promote my business that way. It helped tremendously, but of course, you have to be consistent with that.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Naturally Raw Beauty?
I mostly do silk press for both natural and relaxed hair. I’m really focused on growing the hair or fixing any damage that has been caused. My clients say I have “growing hands” with the method I use for each person. Not all of my clients have the same hair so I focus on what can help them in every way. I do all textures and ages. I do kid cuts for toddlers and older children and help them understand they can look stylish like their parents. I braid men’s hair as well as give them the same treatment as I do my ladies. I want the men to understand their hair is a crown, and I want my Kings to understand that. My goal is to make every client that walks through my door to know that their hair means everything to me, and I will do everything I can to execute every style.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a quiet kid, but at the same time always wanted to help someone. I was in choir, drill team, theater, and even played sports. I was raised with a lot of boys in my neighborhood so they taught me how to take care of myself no matter what it is. It made me a strong independent woman that is able to raise a son on this earth. My childhood truly trained me for my adult good.
