Community Highlights: Meet Kesha Gilbert of Keep Growing Fitness

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Kesha Gilbert.

Kesha Gilbert

Hi Kesha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
You could say I started my personal wellness journey after suffering from a knee injury. Having my first surgery at ten years old and another more serious surgery my sophomore year in college, I was forced to endure physical therapy and started to understand how movement and healing the body works. I wanted to continue my wellness journey and stay fit and healthy, which led me to get a fitness coach. Although I was working in the healthcare marketing space at the time, my first gym experience with a personal trainer gave me a glimpse into what it felt like to impact others in a bigger, more personal way. That inspired me to pursue my own personal training certification, which sparked the creation of Keep Growing Fitness.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I quickly learned how difficult it is building a community, brand and business. One of my biggest challenges was overcoming the fear of stepping out of my corporate position into full time entrepreneurship. My passion for fitness and desire to impact others was never in question, however the status quo and financial certainty was always top of mind. There was a lot of trial and error in the beginning, as I was truly figuring every step of the way out independently and from scratch.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t fearful to start a fitness coaching business in such a saturated market like Los Angeles, but over time, my clientele and community base proved there was a space for myself, my gifts, and my expertise.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Keep Growing Fitness specializes in fitness and holistic wellness. With both in person and online coaching options, I prioritize not only the improvement of the body and physical health, but also cultivating positive habits, a growth mindset, and personal development. I specialize in strength and conditioning training, weightloss, overcoming gym intimidation, and take pride in intentionally connecting to every client on a deep personal level.

I’m proud a majority of my clients end up referring to their time with me as “Kesha Therapy.”

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice for those just starting out is to just start. Don’t let your fears stop you from sharing your gifts. Don’t let comparison halt your individual potential. It’s easier said than done, trust me. However, there is a space for you and all you have to offer your future community. Also, keep in mind that when things aren’t going smoothly, it isn’t a sign to slow down or give up; it’s bound to happen, and I encourage you to use that as your fuel to keep going.
