Hi Kesha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Kesha Spates, and I am a proud partner of Chosen Insurance Agency, an independent, virtual life insurance brokerage. My journey into the life insurance and annuity industry began four years ago when I secured a personal life insurance policy outside of my workplace coverage. During that process, a life insurance agent introduced me to the opportunity of becoming an agent myself on a part-time basis.
The role immediately felt like a natural fit. With 22 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist and seven years as a CPR instructor, I have always found joy in helping and educating others. Now, as a life insurance professional, I continue that passion by empowering individuals and families to secure their financial future.
Working 12-hour shifts while advancing in Respiratory leadership limited me to part-time work as a life insurance agent. However, my desire for freedom led me to take a leap of faith, and in 2024, I transitioned to being a full-time life insurance and annuity professional. It has been a transition, but I’ve truly enjoyed the journey.
Since partnering with Chosen Insurance Agency, I have earned two promotions, and this is the most fulfilled I have felt in years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey has its highs and lows, but working from home and gaining the freedom I desired has been truly refreshing. One of the biggest challenges has been adjusting from the structured 9-to-5 routine to managing my own schedule effectively while working remotely. However, the mentorship and guidance I’ve received from Chosen Insurance Agency have truly set me up for success.
Discipline and motivation are essential, and when working independently, finding the right balance between the two is key to success. I definitely had to put in the work to find that balance.

How do you think about happiness?
I love writing, traveling, crafting, and spending quality time with my family.
Writing has always been a form of release and self-expression for me. Putting pen to paper allows me to express myself and communicate information or educate in a clearer and more authentic way. Recently I wrote an annuity e-book to help educate others about annuities.
Traveling brings me joy because I love exploring new places and capturing memories along the way.
I also enjoy crafting, and in my downtime, I create tumblers and apparel for another business venture of mine.
