Community Highlights: Meet Laramie George of The Tailored Nanny

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laramie George

Hi Laramie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started The Tailored Nanny in 2020 during the midst of the pandemic. As a former nanny of 14 years and a mother myself- I noticed the need for Nannie’s were growing tremendously. I wanted to create a company that paired Nannie’s and families on a compatibility level and something that felt tailored to each family- thus the name of my company. I started off doing placement’s via word of mouth and just kept growing! I have great Google and FB reviews and I strive to be completely different than the traditional nanny agency. My approach is very different than the typical nanny agency.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think some of the biggest struggles were the fact I was a stay-at- home mom and financially I really struggled to get a business going. I had $500 in my bank account when I started. My son’s father had left me with a very limited amount of cash to live on and I borrowed money from friends and family to achieve my goals and lock down making a company. I also had my son, who was a toddler, by my side the entire time. I built a business while pushing the mute button on my phone while talking to parents and Nannie’s. Looking back I have no idea how I did it…. I have to laugh about it!!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in custom, long-term nanny placements. I consider myself a boutique nanny agency. I do every placement myself and have zero employees. I pair Nannie’s and Families together using an approach that is similar to a dating platform. There isn’t another agency in Houston that does what I do. As far as what I’m proud of brand wise- I’d say it’s definitely the “Tailored” part. I truly feel like I tailor each placement for each family as if it were my own children. I want clients to know that every nanny needs to make it through me, as a mom- before ever reaching them. Every family answers over 65 questions which allows me to really know their family and find a nanny who parallels their family. You won’t find that in the typical nanny agency.

How do you define success?
Oh man, this a multifaceted question. To me and how I’ve built my business, success comes from many different outlets. I think the biggest part is truly believing in your dream and end goal. Maybe not even having an end goal and being open to growing. I also think that success takes so much intuition and imagination. You have to be open-minded to keep growing your business and evolving with the times, but also sticking close to your roots and what you really truly wanted to do as a company. Lastly, I would say defining success would definitely be doing what is always right. Doing the right thing isn’t always the easy thing. When you have clients it’s very important that you live your life by treating people like you want to be treated.
