Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Blake.
Hi Lauren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After graduating from Texas A&M, I moved to Houston and began my career in the oil and gas industry, focusing on business development and communications. I loved the people I met and the opportunities to travel, but I’ve always had an entrepreneurial streak—and deep down, I knew I wanted to build something of my own.
That opportunity came after I had my first baby. I joined a group of entrepreneurs in the digital publishing space, where we grew Houston on the Cheap (along with four other city-based sites). The goal was to help people find the best things to do and experience around their city—without breaking the bank. I led our business development efforts and built incredible connections across Houston along the way.
After growing the company for several years, we sold it in 2021. I spent the next couple of years consulting in the space and then decided to take some time off to focus fully on my young family. It’s been both a joy and a marathon—beautifully exhausting in the best way—to spend those formative years with my three kids.
Over the past few years, our family has been on a journey toward better health—learning, unlearning, and finding what works for us. I was inspired by so much of what I was hearing from podcasts and practitioners, but when it came time to apply it in our daily life, I struggled to find local, practical resources. That gap was the spark that led me to create Woo.
Woo is an online, curated resource designed to connect wellness-minded Houstonians with holistic practitioners, services, products, and events. While I’m still newer to the wellness space, my background in publishing gives me the tools to spotlight and support the incredible men and women helping our Houstonians live healthier, more intentional lives.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course not! It’s a hard path to grow in your career while also growing your family. As I’ve grown in business and motherhood I have had to become comfortable with each day and each quarter/semester looking different. The demands of work-life and home-life change constantly and being flexible and open to looking for new ways to work and adjust to the needs of each season is a valuable and essential skill.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Woo Health is a Houston-based digital platform that connects wellness-minded consumers with trusted holistic and functional health resources in their community. We specialize in curating local guides, practitioner spotlights, and educational content that make the world of integrative health more approachable, practical, and local.
Our goal is to bridge the gap between inspiration and implementation—helping people move from listening to wellness podcasts or reading about functional medicine to actually finding the local practitioners, testing options, products, and services that can help them take action right here in Houston.
What sets us apart is our focus on local connection and real-life accessibility. Woo isn’t about trends or perfection—it’s about building a healthier community. We combine storytelling, local discovery, and practical guidance to make wellness feel attainable and authentic, not overwhelming.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Woo feels warm, trustworthy, and human. We’re building a platform that celebrates small businesses and health practitioners who genuinely care about helping people feel their best.
For readers discovering us for the first time, I want them to know that Woo is here to be a starting point on their health journey.
