Today, we’d like to introduce you to Maria Mihaylova.

Maria Mihaylova

Hi Maria, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In 2003 my life was turned upside down. One of these events that make us question everything we believe in. At the time, skin care was only my hobby, something I really liked to read about. My professional goals were different. In a that very difficult time for me, a dear friend of mine inspired me to expand my thinking, and to have new dreams. She literally took me to a beauty school, so I can enroll in. She is also an esthetician, her name is Patricia Garcia.

At the beginning, being an esthetician student felt more like an escape than a career approach. It ended up changing my life in ways I could never imagine. My mood was uplifted by how we, the sutdents, felt after a facial. I saw for the first time what selfcare could achieve for our mood and self-esteem. That is how being an esthetician became my passion.

The main message of my story is, surround yourself with people who feel like sunshine. Be the sunshine for someone else.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When we do what we love the road is a lot easier. Not always smooth, but the bumps are a learning experience. As in any business, gaining people’s trust is essential, and that is what takes time. My way of achieving trust is to always stay on top of my education, so I could always give my best and honest recommendations.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Maria Mihaylova Skin Care?
I specialized in skin care treatments. I have separated my treatments into two categories: improvement and maintenance.

I improve skin issues like acne, and other compromised skins. To me, approaching the skin holistically is a must. These are the treatments in which we take a look at nutrition, lifestyle, products, and we come up with a treatment plan. I have endless continuing education certifications to achieve the best results for my clients. But most importantly, I never stop learning. Seeing the smile of a client with cleared skin is addictive.

Maintenance treatments are deeply relaxing facials, carefully crafted to ease the mind and to rejuvenate the skin. I actually traveled the world to learn most of the techniques used in these facials. There is nothing better than a good facial massage. Nothing!:)

I am extremely proud of the trust my clients have in my skills. These days most people are easily manipulated by influencers and their paid advertising. My clients often ask me about a product or a service outside my practice because they know they always get an honest answer from me.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Licensed beauty professionals already have standardized measurements to protect the clients from cross contamination and spread of germs and disease. This is nothing new to us, with or without Covid-19.

Shutting down everything was new to us, and everyone else. It was then when I started online acne consultations. Not only to keep my practice going, but also because at that time, people started breaking out like I had never seen before. Most likely due to stress. It was important to help and support my clients. When people are desperate because of a skin issue, they tend to do anything they hear, and many times, it is the wrong approach for their skin.

I also learned that in my profession, nothing replaces an in-person treatment.
