Mery, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin? 
It all started with something as joyful as decorating and helping plan our friend’s baby shower. When it came time to plan, we found ourselves searching for the perfect decorations, quickly realizing that there was a gap in the market – a lack of balloons and event decorators offering what we envisioned at a price that would work for us. Faced with limited options and a desire to bring our creative ideas to life, we decided to take matters into our own hands. And so, our venture began. 

What initially started as a solution for one event soon blossomed into something more. We discovered that creating balloon decor wasn’t just a practical solution; it was a canvas for us to express our creativity and drive while continuing to spend quality time together as longtime friends. 

Today, we’re proud to have turned our passion into a thriving business. Every event we decorate is not just an opportunity to provide a service but a chance to infuse joy, color, and personality into every celebration. It’s been a journey filled with learning, growth, countless balloons, but most importantly, many happy customers. 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any entrepreneurial endeavor, it hasn’t been without its challenges. Since we have been in business, we have come across quite unexpected challenges but interesting anecdotes. Take, for example, balloon transportation. Just imagine trying to transport and set up balloons in the middle of Houston’s lovely 100-degree summers while avoiding sounding like a fireworks show in your car or at your customers’ location. Or try playing a game of Tetris when trying to fit everything into our vehicles while ensuring we still have enough visibility to drive safely to our customers’ location. And even better, try setting up backdrops and balloons while fighting an unusually windy day at a park. If we must say, it’s never a dull day when transporting or working with balloons. Despite it all, we approach everything we do with passion, a leveled head for problem-solving, and a multitude of experiences and knowledge that each of us brings to the table. 

As you know, we’re big fans of BAB Events. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We specialize in custom balloon installations and event decorator services in the greater Houston metropolitan area. We also offer rental item services for customers that want to do their own decor but do not want the hassle of purchasing equipment for a single event. We provide services for private and corporate/company events regardless of size. 

What sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to personalized service. We understand that each customer’s vision is unique, and we dedicate ourselves to bringing it to life. A key part of our process is to design and provide our customers with a mockup to ensure that every element aligns seamlessly with their vision, timeline, and budget.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
One of the things that people may not know about us is that the BAB Events team is composed of 5 successful women with full-time careers outside of the balloon and event decor realm. Each of us come from diverse cultural backgrounds, bringing a distinct skill set and expertise to the table, which, in turn, allows us to collaborate seamlessly and tackle projects from multiple angles. Fun fact: some of us have known each other for 15+ years! 

And while our balloon and event decoration business is a side venture, the truth is that it’s a passion project that consumes as much time and dedication as our full-time jobs. We spend countless hours perfecting our craft, from creating intricate mockups and purchasing balloons to planning and executing the intricate details of each design; we leave no stone unturned to ensure that every customer’s needs and budget are catered to. 

And while balloons may be our specialty, what many may not realize is that we’re more than just balloon decorators. We’re event decorators with a flair for transforming spaces into stunning works of art. Whether it’s wedding decorations or corporate events, we’re equipped to handle projects of all sizes and scopes, bringing our creative vision to life in every setting.
