Community Highlights: Meet Michelle Enriquez of Mastering Mindfulness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Enriquez.

Hi Michelle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story began long before Mastering Mindfulness had a name.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn as a first-generation Mexican American, surrounded by strong women, deeply rooted cultural traditions, and an understanding that care often extends far beyond words.

My grandmother, in particular, introduced me to traditions passed down through generations — where presence, intuition, and caring for others were simply a way of life. At the time, I had no idea those early experiences would one day shape the work I do.

Professionally, I spent nearly two decades in public service, working within New York’s court system and in political affairs. That chapter taught me how to listen deeply, advocate for others, and remain steady in high-pressure environments. Alongside that career, I was also growing as a mother, mindfulness practitioner, and eventually a birthworker. Looking back, each experience was preparing me for the next.

What I didn’t realize then was that none of those paths were separate. They were all teaching me the same lesson: people don’t just need information—they need spaces where they can slow down, reflect, and remember their own capacity to move through life’s challenges.

That realization became the foundation of Mastering Mindfulness.

What began with mindfulness workshops has grown into a practice that weaves together education, birth support, community gatherings, and healing experiences. My work draws from both evidence-based mindfulness and the cultural wisdom that has been passed through generations, creating spaces where people can learn, grow, and feel supported through seasons of change.

Today, my focus is simple: to help people build a more intentional relationship with themselves so they can meet life with greater confidence, resilience, and compassion.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges wasn’t changing careers — it was giving myself permission to outgrow an identity that many people had known me for.

For years, people knew me as the woman working in public service and local politics. It was a role I was proud of, but as I continued growing personally, I began to feel called toward something different. Letting go of that identity wasn’t easy, especially when it was the version of me that others had come to know and expect.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that growth sometimes asks us to become unfamiliar, not only to ourselves, but to the people around us. I had to stop measuring my decisions by whether everyone would understand them and start trusting the direction that felt most aligned with who I was becoming.

At the same time, I realized I didn’t have to leave parts of myself behind. My years in public service, my experience in political affairs, my work as a mother, my mindfulness practice, and my path into birthwork all became part of the foundation for Mastering Mindfulness. What once felt like separate identities eventually came together with greater clarity and purpose.

Looking back, I’m grateful for every season of uncertainty because each one taught me that growth isn’t about becoming someone else — it’s about having the courage to become more fully yourself.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Mastering Mindfulness?
Mastering Mindfulness helps people cultivate the awareness, skills, and confidence to respond to life more intentionally. Whether someone is healing, preparing for parenthood, or simply seeking a deeper connection with themselves, my mission is to make mindfulness practical, approachable, and meaningful in everyday life.

As a Mindfulness Facilitator and Birthworker, I offer mindfulness workshops, online programs, community healing circles, one-on-one sessions, and prenatal, birth, and postpartum support. Every offering is designed to help people strengthen their relationship with themselves while feeling supported through life’s changing seasons.

What sets Mastering Mindfulness apart is the way I bring together evidence-based mindfulness with the cultural wisdom and lived experiences that have shaped my own journey. My goal isn’t simply to teach mindfulness — it’s to help people embody it in the way they care for themselves, build relationships, navigate change, and support others.

More than anything, I’m proud of the community we’re building. I want Mastering Mindfulness to be a place where people feel welcomed, challenged, and encouraged to grow — a place where learning, healing, and human connection exist side by side.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
There are so many people who have shaped this journey, and I truly believe none of us build something meaningful alone.

My grandmother will always deserve a special place in this story. Long before I understood mindfulness or birthwork professionally, she showed me what it looked like to care for others with presence, compassion, and quiet strength. Many of the values that guide my work today were first modeled by her.

I’m also deeply grateful for the mentors who have generously shared their knowledge, challenged me to keep learning, and encouraged me to honor both science and cultural wisdom in the way I serve others. Their guidance has helped me grow not only as a professional, but as a person.

Just as importantly, I’m grateful for every client and every family who has trusted me during deeply personal moments in their lives. Whether someone has joined a workshop, participated in an online program, invited me into their birth journey, or shared their story with me, they’ve each taught me something about the resilience, vulnerability, and strength we all carry.

Finally, I’m thankful for the friends, family, and community members who believed in this vision long before it became what it is today. Their encouragement reminded me to keep going, especially during seasons when the path felt uncertain.

Building Mastering Mindfulness has never felt like a solo journey. It’s been built through relationships, trust, and the generosity of people who have shared their wisdom, their stories, and their belief in what’s possible.
