Community Highlights: Meet Nicholas & Helen Harris of The Dough Haus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas & Helen Harris

Hi Nicholas & Helen, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We both have enjoyed baking from an early age. Back in 2020, we began baking more often as a way to entertain ourselves, since everything was locked down.

Nicholas wanted to bake me my favorite dessert from scratch, so our journey making cinnamon rolls began. I decided to document our process via social media, and we immediately received a lot of responses from friends and family that wanted to enjoy our sweet treats. So we decided to start selling to friends and family during the holidays for the next 3 years.

At the start of 2023, we got invited to become vendors at a Greenway Coffee market, so we branded ourselves as The Dough Haus. For the rest of the year, we continued to receive more invitations to other markets and events throughout the city which gave us a lot of exposure outside of friends and family.

This allowed us the opportunity to partner with a local coffee shop to sell our cinnamon rolls there for a limited time, which in benefit continued to expose us to the local community. We recently partnered with Citizens Catering, a company passionate about working with small local businesses, and we are excited about this new opportunity!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For the most part, things have gone pretty smoothly. However, because both of us have full-time jobs that can sometimes be demanding, it can be difficult at times to juggle that and running a micro home bakery on the side. Vending at the various markets can also be both exhausting and rewarding since it calls for long nights of baking.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Dough Haus?
We are passionate about baking and handcrafting fresh cinnamon rolls and sweet rolls from scratch. Part of what sets us apart and something we pride on as a brand, is the fact that we truly believe in the value of high quality food. Therefore, we only source high-quality, fresh and organic ingredients to craft our rolls.

Our mission is simple: to deliver unparalleled flavor and joy in every warm bite. From classic cinnamon rolls to innovative flavor fusions, we’re always pushing the boundaries of sweet perfection!

We currently don’t have a shop but people can always find us at various markets throughout the city. We also have a website where people can place orders

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
We constantly get asked what the end goal is for The Dough Haus, and honestly, we are still trying to figure out where we want to take it.

However, we have enjoyed the last year of growth and exposure as we continue to experiment in the kitchen for new flavors and new offerings. In the meantime, we are open to doing events and selling directly to our clients.
