Community Highlights: Meet O’schae Burris of Burris Impact Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to O’schae Burris

Hi O’Schae, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been focused and purpose driven, even as a child. I always wanted to know how things worked, what was being done, and who was doing it. It wasn’t until the loss of my dad at 13 that I really began to put my plan for my life in motion. Being introduced to that part of life at that particular age definitely shaped my way of thinking. I always felt like I didn’t have time to waste. “Life is short so you can’t afford to waste time doing silly kid things. You have to prepare yourself for what’s to come because you never know when your time is up”. That’s what would replay in my mind and it helped me stay focused. I always said that I wanted to join the Air Force. I remember sitting at the tv and telling my grandmother “I’m gonna do that”- a commercial of an Air Force JAG officer (lawyer) had just played. After my dad died I really honed in on making that my reality. I did just that- minus the JAG part. I commissioned as an Air Force Logistics Officer in 2018. I loved my time in the Air Force. My first duty station was Yokota Air Base, Japan and that shaped my adult life. I found myself there. My passion for leadership, self -confidence, love for service- all met me there and I knew then the type of person I wanted to be. I got injured at my next duty station and that sent me back to the states and ultimately ended my military career. This was a very dark time in my life because everything I had worked towards had ended. I had no idea what I was going to do or how my life would end up. Life had completely took me for a loop during this time- multiple family deaths, a near death health scare, a mental crisis- I was contemplating ending my life. I felt so hopeless and broken because I couldn’t seem to get through one situation without something else traumatic happening. But I clearly remember God speaking and saying “I made promises to people that include and involve you. If you end it now, you will have made me out to be a liar” and as Jeremy Stone says “God don’t Lie”. Thats where Burris Impact was birthed. My passion is serving. How can I help? How I can I serve? What can I do to make this life mean something? I can help those who help others. And that’s just what Burris Impact Solutions is all about. Helping those who serve our communities connect with resources and other servants to continue to do what God has allowed them to do.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There has been what I call the typical “creative’s dilemma”. Once I got the vision to start Burris Impact Solutions, I sat it down. I did not start the process right away because I feared that this was just me being imaginative. “This is a good idea but will it really help?” Once I got out of my head, I realized God doesn’t give you visions and ideas for you to keep to yourself. It’s all for the Glory of God and that helped me get out of my own way. Getting BIS established was pretty smooth but I was slow to launch. Again, self-doubt kept appearing. I had everything finished but I was scared to launch because I feared that it wouldn’t take off or I wouldn’t get the support that I desired which proved to be completely untrue. I received a ton of support which I am completely grateful for. We are still working on increasing our reach and social media presence, but all in all, things have gone well.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Burris Impact Solutions is a helping organization. We help the helper. Our specialty is nonprofit management and helping organizations work smarter and not harder. We work with all sorts of organizations from churches to shelters, to grassroots organizations, etc. Our knowledge in the nonprofit sphere is vast but I want readers to understand that this isn’t a typical consultant company. We hold your hand from beginning to end of service and once our business has concluded you walk away with not just a completed service but immeasurable knowledge on how to sustain your organization. We appreciate the business but our goal isn’t met until we know you are walking away with more knowledge than you met us with.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family without a doubt. The family I was born into and the people I’ve met along the way that I consider family as well. I have the most loving and supportive family anyone could ask for. It’s easy to stay committed to myself and my goals when I have people like them who support, celebrate, and pray for me.
