Community Highlights: Meet Ranjit Makhija of Makhija CPA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ranjit Makhija.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was working in Oil and Gas as a inventory accountant. I’m also a single dad. My boss at the time was pushing me to work later while I needed to go pick up my kid. It was a healthy situation. So I decided to start my own company. I started with no clients and worked TurboTax parttime. Then Covid happened and we pivoted to SBA and Covid funding. We picked a ton of clients from there and have been working ever since.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely had some road blocks. Understanding what clients need and how to sell the package which was very different at the time. We billed monthly and work with the client all year round. Also when we should hire employees or not.

We’ve been impressed with Makhija CPA , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We do bookkeeping, tax planning and tax returns for midsize and small size businesses. We bill monthly, so we can work with our clients all year round. We answer all of our phone calls and if we don’t respond we will call back. We also answer all of our emails within 24 hours.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
