Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Taquizas La Doña began in November 2020 when my mom had the idea to buy a griddle and start offering taquizas to our friends and family. Drawing from her experience running a taco stand in Tamaulipas, Mexico in the 90s, she felt confident in her plan. After purchasing the necessary equipment, we invited friends and family to try our tacos, and their positive feedback encouraged her to pursue the business further.
Gradually, we started booking events around Houston, and our services have been well-received. We’ve catered numerous events, including birthday parties, graduations, baby showers, employee appreciation events, bachelorette parties, Christmas parties, weddings, tornabodas, and quinceañeras.
We offer various packages, starting for 40 people and accommodating up to 200. Our menu includes bistec, pastor, chicken, chorizo, and barbacoa tacos and quesadillas. Each package includes charro beans, grilled onions, peppers, and nopalitos, homemade aguas frescas, corn in a cup, toppings, and plasticware.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been easy, as prepping and serving at events requires a tremendous amount of work. However, La Doña loves what she does and is always excited to make it happen every time.
A few months ago, our trailer and all our equipment were stolen from our storage unit. Thankfully, we managed to recover the trailer, but we lost everything else. Starting from scratch was incredibly challenging, but Taquizas La Doña wasn’t done yet—we came back even stronger!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Taquizas La Doña is a small family owned business that caters delicious taquizas for special events.
We have multiple packages to choose from and our specialty are mexican street tacos and quesadillas. As our meat options we offer bistec, pastor, chicken, chorizo, and barbacoa. We also offer soy al pastor and veggie fajitas for our vegetarian clients. Every package comes with aguas frescas, charro beans, corn in a cup, taco toppings (cilantro, onion, limes, and salsas), grilled onions, peppers, and nopales, and plasticware.
Everything is cooked right on the spot and is freshly served to all of your guests. We get to your event a couple of hours before serving time to set up and start cooking. Our set up is Mexican themed and we have our traditional Lele rag dolls decorating our tables.
