Community Highlights: Meet Rebecca Bacon of Raven Building Performance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Bacon.

Hi Rebecca, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in the Houston area and have always had a heart for helping people. After earning my bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston University in 2017, I began working in oil and gas, then transitioned into teaching and supporting children with autism. Along the way, I pursued a master’s degree in Victim Services Management, which I completed in 2020. My journey hasn’t been without challenges — I was diagnosed with lupus in 2019, which has shaped the way I approach life, health, and resilience.

In 2022, I met Owen, who later became my husband and adopted my daughter. Together we welcomed our son in 2023, and building a family also planted the seed to build a business that mattered. Owen had been performing home inspections for years, but we wanted to create something that went beyond “checking boxes.” For me, it was about protecting families and helping realtors guide their clients through one of life’s biggest decisions.

That’s how Raven Building Performance was born. It was my idea to step out on our own, and after months of conversations and encouragement, Owen agreed to take the leap. Today, I handle the client care, networking, and behind-the-scenes work to keep our company growing, while Owen focuses on delivering the most thorough inspections possible. Raven is not just about buildings — it’s about people, and it’s personal to us because we treat every home as if our own family were moving in.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting any business comes with challenges, but I would say our journey has been smoother than expected because we leaned into our strengths. For me, the hardest part has been juggling everything — raising two kids, managing a household, working toward my Master’s in Counseling, and building this business at the same time. Add lupus on top of that, and it’s been a lesson in perseverance.

For Owen, the biggest obstacle was stepping away from the security of working for established companies. He had built a name as one of the most thorough inspectors on every team he worked for, but taking the leap into running our own business was scary. I was the one pushing daily, reminding him that his knowledge and attention to detail deserved to stand on its own. Once we finally launched in 2025, things started to click. Networking, building relationships, and showing up for people has helped us gain momentum quickly.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Raven Building Performance?
Raven Building Performance is more than just a home inspection company — it’s a family business built on integrity, detail, and care. We specialize in comprehensive inspections that go beyond the basics. From sewer scopes, pools and spas, septic and well inspections, waterfront properties, manufactured homes, log cabins, mold testing, WDI inspections, commercial inspections, and more. We provide clarity that helps clients make confident decisions.

What sets us apart is our thoroughness and technology. We use tools like infrared cameras, drones, foundation zip levels, and sporecyte mold testing to catch issues that might otherwise be missed. But beyond the tools, we’re known for our balanced approach — delivering same-day reports that are factual, clear, and never alarmist. Realtors trust us because we help their transactions move smoothly, and clients appreciate that we take the time to walk them through every finding.

On my side, my role is making the process seamless for everyone involved. I handle scheduling, communication, and client care, making sure realtors and buyers always feel supported. I love connecting with people, answering questions, and making what could feel overwhelming into something manageable and reassuring. That human touch — along with Owen’s technical expertise — is what makes us proud of the Raven name.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice is simple: don’t let fear stop you. If you believe in something, even if you don’t have all the details figured out, take the leap. I was terrified of the unknown, but I also knew deep down that starting Raven was the right move for us. The truth is, you don’t need every step mapped out. What you do need is passion, integrity, and the willingness to show up consistently.

I also wish I knew earlier how important it is to lean on community, networking groups, friends, family, and even strangers you meet along the way can open doors you never expected. Be open to receiving help and guidance, because the right people will show up when you’re walking in your purpose. Most importantly, remember that success isn’t instant. It’s built day by day, conversation by conversation, and client by client. Trust the process, and keep moving forward.
