Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebekah Yigael.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a trauma therapist and work with women and couples experiencing struggles during their pregnancy journey. My connection to this work began long before I was born. When my dad was 7 years old, his mom had a life-altering miscarriage after expecting her second child. From my dad’s little eyes, he remembers excitedly waiting for his little brother to come home one evening, but that’s not at all how it turned out. Instead, his parents came home empty-handed after having a miscarriage. Sadly, many will face this experience. Yet, it remains one often not talked about, and my family was no different. I know this painful experience deeply impacted not only my grandparents but also my dad, who was so ready to be a big brother. Hearing my grandmother’s story and witnessing the mental and emotional impact this had on multiple generations of my family makes this work extra close to my heart. I want to make sure that women and couples have someone to turn to when experiencing miscarriage and pregnancy loss while building a family or going through the IVF process. I want future moms and dads out there to know that if you have had a miscarriage, it is not your fault. I also want you to know that peace and light can still be found after going through dark moments brought on by miscarriage or pregnancy loss.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest hurdles to jump has been realizing and working through my own insecurities of feeling incompetent or not good enough as a therapist. Looking back on this journey, I now know that to gain confidence as a therapist and small business owner, I had to recognize that I am good enough. This goes deeper than simply recognizing that I’m a good therapist, but I’m also a good human, worthy of love, and someone who brings value to this world. It changed my life when I finally realized that I don’t have to be perfect to be a good helper who works with others as they heal and create a healthy, vibrant life beyond their wildest dreams.
What this sometimes-bumpy journey has taught me is that feelings of anxiety and whispers of “I’m not good enough” is what makes me human. I’m dedicated to the lifelong journey of remembering my value and “good enoughness” as a human being on this earth, and that is what makes me a good fit for this career path. Each and every one of my past, present and future clients has so much value, goodness, and wisdom within them- my job is to help them find and uncover all that goodness to unlearn unhelpful beliefs about themselves and heal from painful experiences that are weighing them down.
Being in school for 19 years taught me how to look to others (such as teachers, parents, and bosses) for answers and guidance, but no one really taught me how to look within and fully understand my own life story to determine my passions and path in life. The past 7 years of being a licensed social worker and therapist have taught me how to do exactly that. Now I get to help others do the same. The bumps in the road have led me here to this spot, and I’m eternally grateful for that.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about HVL Therapy & Coaching Center?
We are a Houston-based therapy and coaching center that integrates therapy and counseling with health and life coaching to help individuals and couples move smoothly through the pregnancy process. I’m a licensed trauma therapist, and my partner in life and business, Dante Yigael, is a health coach, life coach, and personal trainer. We realized early on that the best way to help individuals create a healthy, vibrant life in a truly integrated way would be to join forces and use our unique expertise to help people experience lasting change that goes far beyond their pregnancy experience.
We offer health and well-being services, resting metabolic rate testing, and even connect our clients to registered dietitians who create effective meal plans that are tailored to your goals and lifestyle. This provides you with support and guidance on ways to maintain or improve a healthy lifestyle in addition to supporting you through the mental and emotional struggles that tend to arise while experiencing setbacks during your pregnancy process.
What’s next?
We are looking forward to building new relationships with IVF clinics, therapy practices, and other professionals throughout the Houston area who work with clients starting the pregnancy process. We want to reach more individuals and couples who might not currently know where to turn when starting this journey.
