Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricky Joyce.

Ricky Joyce

Hi Ricky, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born in Missouri City and raised in Pecan Grove—two places that shaped my roots, my work ethic, and my love for sport. From an early age, competition wasn’t just something I did, it was who I was.

That path took me to Texas A&M University, where I we etched our names in the history books by winning the 2011 Track & Field National Championship. I competed in the 400m, 600yd, 800m & 4x400m during my time at A&M. While chasing performance on the track, I studied Health and Kinesiology with a focus in Sports Management, determined to understand not just how to compete—but how the body truly works.

My college career wasn’t smooth. I suffered numerous injuries and experienced firsthand how unforgiving the world of college athletics can be. I learned what it feels like to be underprepared, mismanaged, and physically broken down while still being expected to perform at a high level. Those struggles shaped me more than any medal ever could.

By the time I was 20 years old, I had already planted myself in the sports performance world—coaching athletes on the side, studying relentlessly, earning certifications, and learning through both success and failure. I wasn’t just coaching to make athletes faster or stronger. I was searching for answers to the questions my own career never got to ask.

Eventually, I found my home in Katy, Texas.

And when I got here, I made a promise—to myself and to this community. I promised that Lonestar ATH would be the first locally owned sports performance facility in Katy to stay open. Too many gyms had come and gone, falling victim to poor ethics, lack of communication, inconsistent schedules, ego, incorrect programming, etc. Athletes were just left confused, injured, and/or under served.

Another thing I’ve noticed out of all my years in this industry is the amount of trainers that bad mouth other coaches. Here’s the deal. Anybody that is taking time out of their day to help someone in any category, is worthy of respect.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Injuries, the college athlete dynamic, my dad passed away in 2012 (sophomore year) Networking, relationship struggles. Lack of awareness, neglect, lies told during recruiting process. All hindered my path to success however without those moments I can’t say that I’d be where I’m at today. Beautiful & Healthy family. Growing business. Outstanding community. Amazing team. It doesn’t get any better. So, it’s been a bumpy road but we’re still in the drivers seat and foot on the gas.

As you know, we’re big fans of Lonestar ATH. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

Lonestar ATH was founded in 2021

Where we aim to be the premier destination for sports performance in Katy for one reason: Consistency. Consistency in coaching. Consistency in communication. Consistency in programming. Consistency in values.

Every injury suffered, every loss endured, and every struggle faced as an athlete, fuels everything we do. Our mission is to guide young men and women to understand their bodies and minds, prepare the right way, and leave no box unchecked.

Confidence doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built through preparation.

At Lonestar ATH, regret isn’t in our vocabulary—because when preparation is done right, there’s nothing left to wish you had done differently.
