Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always wanted to help in some form of capacity since I was young. However, I didn’t start out as wanting to be a counselor, yet my transition into it was easy. I went to a number of schools, focusing on my career path in Nursing that eventually led me to pursue a career in counseling. Along this journey, I have had the opportunity to meet several professors that were a part of the reasons why I have the skills, the tools, the passion, and the drive to have pursued this challenging and rewarding profession. In this field that chose me, I am elated that I can help clients discover their strengths and step forward to improve their overall mental health. In addition, I love the opportunities to never stop growing and learning in this field, whether it’s reading, networking, attending workshops or in the one-on-one therapy sessions with my clients.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has not been easy, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I spent my first years working for other companies and organizations not feeling like I had worked up to my full potential. Those years were received with a lot of criticism and rejection on what I had envisioned for myself. I have sat at tables with other seasoned professionals, colleagues, and friends who I thought shared the same vision as myself, nevertheless; I was shown how they could only see how they could easily benefit from me. Even with those shortcomings, I realized that I needed to create my own opportunities. Once I realized that my future was in my hands, I decided to seek out my own path and worked harder to hone on my skills and build the practice that I have today. From those experiences, I learned that you have to prioritize yourself, set your non-negotiables and work from there. This journey is everlasting, but I am ready for the ride as I know it’s not how you start, but how you end.

Overcome Counseling is dedicated to providing culturally diverse therapy to adolescents and adults to help them improve their mental and emotional wellness along with achieving their goals while enjoying services from the comfort of their homes. We will set realistic and achievable goals that reflect each client’s individual aspirations and the changes they wish to see in their lives. What sets Overcome Counseling apart from others is that we work together to explore our client’s life challenges with the ultimate goal of healing. Overcome Counseling thrives on providing accessible therapy to marginalized populations as well as helping to dispel social stigma related to mental health illness and counseling. Lastly, Overcome Counseling provides Individual Counseling Services, LPC Supervision, and Consultation Services.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Looking back, luck plays a role in everybody’s lives. It can be both good and bad and either make or break a person’s life. However, it is essential to know how the role of luck has played in achieving our goals while also understanding that sometimes it’s beyond our control. When it comes to my private practice, I would say luck has provided me the ability to create new opportunities that would have been impossible had I not acquired the skills, knowledge and experiences that were a huge factor in my life such as working hard, perseverance, and having a clear focus on my goals. I try to create good luck by being prepared for whenever an opportunity arises. So, whether it was good or bad luck it will always play a role, but my efforts are focused on seizing every opportunity to increase my chances of success.
