Community Highlights: Meet Sebastien Gibert of The Hideout Clothing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sebastien Gibert.

Sebastien, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Originally, THC began designing, printing and embroidering our own tees’ as work uniforms for our stores in Trinidad. Eventually, customers started asking what was the brand the employees were wearing and requested to purchase. Everything happened organically, and becoming fashion designers was never really in the game plan. However, because of the high demand from the customers we could not ignore this opportunity.

Being a clothing line from Trinidad, international opportunities were limited, but we made trips (usually done by sales reps with years of experience) on our own visiting retail-clothing stores throughout the United States where we built relationships with buyers across the US.

We are now in over 50 boutiques across the US and have recently been featured in HIGHSNOBIETY as one of the six brands to look out for at PROJECT Las Vegas.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. We had to sleep in cars, stay in low budget hotels, had delays in shipments, experienced fraud on our website, amongst other things. But this is all part of the journey.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
THC creates fashion with potent references to urban island “ghetto-youth” culture rooted in stories that reverberate globally. Since its first drop, THC has amassed a loyal client base in the US among Millennials, Gen Z, Dancehall and Rap enthusiasts. The brand feeds demand for streetwear with thought-provoking edgy aesthetics and authentic Caribbean feels. As an emerging streetwear label, THC has carved out a global community of believers in its offering, cultivating a host of multitalented creatives from artists and filmmakers to musicians and producers who all stimulate the brands’ family essence.

THC represents an aspirational movement and offers a point of view on the fashion landscape that is authentically street. The brand’s aesthetics is creative with accessible, wearable pieces that can be suited to the wearers’ style –– all to empower a polished authentic urbanity.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I would say don’t give up. There is no special formula. The secret I think is to truly find your passion and what you love and no matter the set backs and the obstacles, keep the faith and belief that you will succeed.
