Community Highlights: Meet Serhat Bolukbasi of Homewatch CareGivers of Houston Galleria

Today we’d like to introduce you to Serhat Bolukbasi.

Hi Serhat, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey, in a humble entrepreneurial family that ran a small business. Growing up in that environment gave me an early understanding of responsibility, perseverance, and what it really takes to build something from the ground up. Those early lessons stayed with me and shaped how I think about work, ownership, and long term value.

I went on to study management and began my career in consulting and corporate roles, where I built a strong foundation in strategy, operations, and problem solving. I worked closely with leadership teams, helped organizations improve performance, and learned how disciplined execution creates real results.

While the work was intellectually challenging and rewarding, I always felt drawn toward building and owning businesses rather than advising from the outside.

That desire eventually led me to the United States. As I continued my career here, I gained hands on experience across different industries and markets, but my focus gradually shifted toward becoming an owner operator. I wanted to build something where values, people, and long term thinking could directly impact real lives.

That path ultimately led me to home care. Together with my partner Andrew Harris, a registered nurse with clinical experience, we acquired Homewatch CareGivers of Houston Galleria from retiring owners.

What drew us in was not just the business opportunity, but the chance to raise the standard of care for families navigating some of the most important and vulnerable moments in their lives.

Since then, we have focused on building a high quality, disciplined, and values driven organization. Today, I am proud of how far the company has come, but even more focused on continuing to grow thoughtfully while staying grounded in why we started in the first place.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not smooth, but that is true of anything worth building.

Home care is a complex industry. You are balancing clinical standards, caregiver recruitment and retention, compliance, family expectations, and operational rigor all at the same time. Early on, one of the biggest challenges was scaling without compromising quality. Growth is easy if you cut corners. Doing it the right way requires patience, discipline, and constant reinvestment.

Another challenge was earning trust from families, caregivers, and referral partners in an industry where trust is everything and reputations matter deeply. We leaned into transparency, responsiveness, and doing the hard things consistently, even when no one was watching.

Those challenges ultimately shaped our culture and systems, and they are a big reason we operate the way we do today.

As you know, we’re big fans of Homewatch CareGivers of Houston Galleria. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Homewatch CareGivers of Houston Galleria provides personalized non medical home care for seniors and adults who want to continue living safely and comfortably in their own homes. By home care, we mean hands on in home support with daily life such as personal care, mobility, companionship, safety oversight, and care coordination, all delivered in a way that preserves dignity, independence, and peace of mind for families.

We proudly serve families throughout Houston including River Oaks, West University, Memorial, Tanglewood, Bellaire, and surrounding areas where families often seek a higher level of consistency, professionalism, and trust for their loved ones.

We are known for supporting more complex and long term care needs, and we specialize in:
• Long term and complex care situations
• Dementia and Alzheimer’s care
• Post hospital and transitional care
• Long Term Care Insurance claim guidance and support
• High touch coordination with families, physicians, care managers, and other professionals

What truly sets us apart is that we do not treat home care as a commodity. We operate at a higher standard that is clinically informed, relationship driven, and operationally disciplined. Our care plans are thoughtful, our caregivers are supported, and our families are never left wondering what is happening next.

Brand wise, I am most proud of the trust we have earned. Families know we show up and do what we say we will do. Caregivers know they are respected and supported. Referral partners know their clients are in good hands. That consistency is why we have been recognized as number one in Houston and number seven in the United States by Home Care Pulse. These rankings matter because they are based on verified client and caregiver satisfaction rather than marketing claims.

Our goal is not to simply call ourselves the best. It is to set the gold standard for what exceptional home care should feel like.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Home care is going to play an increasingly central role in healthcare over the next decade. As the population ages and families prefer care at home rather than in facilities, demand will continue to rise. At the same time, hospitals and skilled nursing facilities are under growing pressure, which means more care is shifting into the home.

Families will also have higher expectations. They want transparency, consistency, and professional care coordination rather than just basic assistance. Agencies that invest in caregivers, training, systems, and accountability will stand out, while those treating home care as simple staffing will struggle.

Another major shift will be deeper integration with healthcare systems, care managers, and insurance partners, including Long Term Care Insurance. Home care will no longer be viewed as an optional service but as a core part of how people age and recover safely.

Overall, the industry will move toward fewer but stronger providers who operate with higher standards and long term sustainability in mind.
