Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharod Mckinney.
Hi Sharod, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in New York and raised in New Jersey.
I did not always know I wanted to be a dentist. I thought I was going into the research field to become a biochemist. After working in a lab, I realized that the research field was not for me, and I had to explore other options. Fortunately, during a dental appointment with my dentist, we had a conversation about careers, and he suggested I shadow him. After which, I fell in love with dentistry. From there, I applied to dental school and completed my Doctorate of Dental Medicine at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
After I graduated, I spent several years working as an Associate Dentist with the aspiration of owning a dental office. In 2021, I opened Pasadena Modern Dentistry.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course not. The road has not been smooth at all, but it has been worthwhile. One of my early struggles was finding out, just prior to starting dental school, that I had a learning disability. Thankfully I was able to overcome it and get through dental school successfully. My more recent challenges have been related to the marketing/promoting aspect of building up a new practice. Basically, getting new patients in the door.
We’ve been impressed with Pasadena Modern Dentistry, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am owner of Pasadena Modern Dentistry. I am a general Dentist. I perform a vast amount of procedures ranging from teeth extractions, teeth straightening with clear aligners, placing crowns and bridges, and delivering dentures. I am known for creating beautiful smiles with restorations such as crowns, bridges, and veneers. Our team is typically able to resolve our patients’ dental issues same day, and oftentimes, in less than two hours, with the technology we have in office.
What sets us apart from other dental offices is that Pasadena Modern Dentistry is a multi-specialty practice with the latest technology. Besides myself, I have an Oral Surgeon, a Periodontist, and an Endodontist under the same roof. We also have state-of-the-art technology, such as our CEREC machine to create crowns and other dental restorations in less than two hours. Historically, and still with some other dental offices, these procedures can require multiple visits. We avoid that hassle at my office.
What I am most proud of brand-wise is the ability to create smiles with a stress-free, fear-free, and hassle-free dentist visit.

Success is the ability to achieve and maintain the goals and aspirations that you set for yourself.
