Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharzad Parfait.
Hi Sharzad, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into healthcare started with a passion for sports and performance. I pursued a degree in Kinesiology with the goal of becoming an athletic trainer, but after graduating, I wanted to deepen my understanding of rehabilitation and find my place within the sports environment. This led me to complete a Master’s degree in Sports Science and Rehabilitation.
During my time at Logan University, I was introduced to rehabilitation from a chiropractic perspective, which ultimately led me to pursue a Doctorate of Chiropractic. Throughout my training, I developed a strong interest in repetitive stress injuries and how everyday movement patterns, work demands, and athletics contribute to them.
Today, my focus is on helping individuals manage and prevent these injuries while improving overall movement and function through evidence-based, conservative care.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has been far from a smooth road. Early in my undergraduate career, I faced instability, transitioning between schools while navigating life as a young single mother. During that time, I balanced multiple responsibilities, including working two jobs while attending the University of Houston and remaining committed to personal growth and leadership through joining a sorority.
While pursuing my Master’s degree, I continued to work full-time as a licensed banker, managing the demands of both professional and academic life. When I made the decision to leave banking and pursue my Doctorate of Chiropractic, I entered the program while also navigating a pregnancy, which led to becoming a single mother for the second time during my studies.
Throughout my doctoral journey, I faced a series of personal and environmental challenges, including the loss of close family members, unexpected life tragedies, a significant lumbar injury that required surgery, and displacement from my home due to severe weather damage. Despite these hardships, I remained committed to my goals and continued to push forward.
These experiences have shaped my resilience, discipline, and ability to adapt under pressure. Rather than deterring me, they strengthened my purpose and reinforced my commitment to building a career centered on helping others overcome their own challenges.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
R.I.S.E. Chiropractic (Rehab Innovations for Sport and Exercise) is a performance-driven chiropractic practice focused on helping athletes and active individuals recover, move better, and perform at their highest level. The practice specializes in the treatment and prevention of repetitive stress injuries commonly seen in sports and training, while also addressing the physical demands of everyday life.
What sets R.I.S.E. apart is its integration of hands-on treatment with sport-specific rehabilitation and movement training. Care is not limited to passive therapy—each treatment plan is designed to restore function, improve strength and mobility, and enhance overall performance. Whether working with recreational athletes or competitive individuals, the goal is to bridge the gap between injury and return to play.
R.I.S.E. Chiropractic is known for delivering efficient, results-driven care that aligns with the demands of sport. By focusing on biomechanics, movement quality, and injury prevention, patients are not only able to recover, but build resilience and reduce their risk of reinjury.
At its core, R.I.S.E. represents strength, adaptability, and the pursuit of optimal performance—both on and off the field.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is playing basketball and just being active all the time. I grew up watching and idolizing players like Steve Francis and cheering on the Houston Rockets, which really fueled my love for sports. I also remember how exciting it was watching the New Orleans Saints win the Super Bowl XLIV—that moment stuck with me.
Those experiences made sports feel bigger than just a game. They gave me a sense of connection, excitement, and identity at a young age. Looking back, that passion for movement and athletics played a huge role in shaping who I am today and ultimately influenced my path into working with athletes and active individuals.
