Community Highlights: Meet Sheela Rodrigues of Platesfull

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheela Rodrigues.

Hi Sheela, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
From Corporate to Kitchen: The Journey Behind Platesfull

My career started in corporate soft skills training, but by 2010, I took a sharp turn towards food blogging, which eventually led me into the world of home baking with Sweet Zions Bakehouse. Just as I thought I had found my true calling, I stumbled upon another passion—real estate. I recognized a growing need in the market to help clients find their dream homes, and I dove headfirst into that journey too.

But the real breakthrough came when life started to feel… well, too full. Between work, cooking, cleaning, and raising kids, managing everything became overwhelming. The struggle to find a trustworthy, skilled cook who could prepare a variety of meals tailored to our tastes was real. We wanted help, but we couldn’t find anyone who could meet our needs. And that’s when the idea for Platesfull was born.

Launched in early 2025, Platesfull began as an online personal chef marketplace designed to simplify meal planning for busy families like ours. Today, we proudly serve all major cities in Texas, connecting people with trusted, talented chefs at transparent prices—taking the stress out of mealtime and bringing joy back to the table.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The Bumpy Road to Entrepreneurship: Trusting the Process

Entrepreneurship is never a straight line—it’s a winding, bumpy road full of lessons. My journey from Sweet Zions Bakehouse to real estate has taught me that the key to success is consistency and perseverance. The most important thing I’ve learned is to never give up. It takes time, but if you trust the process, things will eventually fall into place.

When we first launched Platesfull, the biggest hurdle was attracting talented chefs to the platform. My partner—both in business and in life, Sharon—and I were fully invested in the vision, but it was hard to get chefs on board without a fully functioning platform or website to show them. We knew we were onto something, but convincing others to see that potential was a challenge.

However, once we brought a few chefs and clients on board, the momentum slowly began to build. Word spread, and little by little, people started to believe in our vision. What was once a struggle has now become an opportunity. We have a growing line of chefs eager to join Platesfull.

Currently, we’re focused on brand awareness. Thanks to a strong and consistent marketing strategy, we’re deepening our presence throughout Texas, one city at a time. It’s a journey, but the rewards are starting to show, and we’re just getting started.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Houston and Texas have a warmth and diversity that make you feel immediately welcomed. I moved from India to Singapore in 2010, and I was captivated by the food and the towering skyscrapers there. When the opportunity to move to Texas came up, we were apprehensive. All we had heard about were cowboys, deserts, and how lonely it might be.

But once we arrived, everything changed. Texas, and especially Houston, is more beautiful than we ever imagined. The people here are incredibly warm and accepting, and the food, culture, and diversity are unmatched. It didn’t take long to feel deeply connected to this place. It truly has a charm that makes you feel at home, no matter where you come from.

Pricing:

  • $125 for meal prep visit
  • $65 per person for private dinners
