Community Highlights: Meet Shonna King of Experience Team

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shonna King.

Hi Shonna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
After working in sales and marketing for 15 years, I decided I was going to take a leap of faith and open my own tax office branch. The first year I was in business, I lost my entire life savings. LOL-, but I didn’t lose hope. The next year I opened two more and things took off! Eventually, we had four offices and have now merged into one mega hub and one satellite branch office. In 2016, I decided to add insurance to our services and became a licensed commercial and residential insurance broker. The same year, I decided to get my real estate license after learning about a new exciting real estate brokerage that I knew was going to change real estate forever. The first year in real estate was challenging for me, I was trying to learn everything I could. Now I advise my agents LEARN while you EARN. There is no such thing as learning it all. Since 2016, I have grown our local Houston team to over 30 agents in HOUSTON, and over 50 total. I have achieved Icon agent for the last 3 years in a row which is the top 1% of sales in the entire brokerage ( over 75,000 and counting ) I am a certified mentor within the company which allows me to continually give back to agents and help them achieve the same success. My fuel to succeed is my children. Everything I have ever wanted to do was to help them never have to worry about anything like I did growing up. I have three handsome sons, my oldest is a sophomore at the UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS, majoring in Biology, my two youngest are baseball stars. I have a wonderful fulfilling life and enjoy serving my clients through relationships created. Majority of my clients end up being great friends as well, so life is always busy.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely a rough start to entrepreneurship, but it’s been a good ride. Being a single mom has always presented challenges, and in 2013, I lost my mother, grandmother, and best friend all in the same year. That was super tough. But, all overcame.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Experience Team?
Real estate, insurance, and taxes. We provide a VIP experience for our clients ensuring they are well educated about every aspect of the game plan we tailor create for each client. I think my social media presence has def set me apart. I am not afraid to overpost or ask for the sale either. I’m comfortable with being uncomfortable, lol. I’m proud of my team for continuing to grow and collaborate and help each other.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My current husband has played a huge part in my success. He has stepped up to assist me with the kiddos and played a role in running our businesses now together. Also, my office manager Yasmany Patterson has been a part of our core business now since 2013 and has been a huge factor on our success. We are like the three amigos.
