Today we’d like to introduce you to Terry Ham.
Hi Terry, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, the way me and my father would bond was with comic books, superheroes, action movies, conventions, and funko pops with my mom. One of most memorable times I have with my dad is wait in the extremely long line to watch Ironman for the first time back in 2008 when I was five years old; another time was going to my first comic book store, where he bought me my first two comics that I now have framed on my walls ones even signed by my father for a reminder of me and his love for comics. For my mom, she would take me to the mall, and we would wait in lines to get exclusive funko pops. So I always had a love for these types of media, and not too long ago, my friend Keith and I were talking on the phone about how we were tired of having to drive thirty minutes or even a hour away to get to comic book store, so we then realized that we can fix that problem ourselves because we love this type of media and soon after one of my dad’s best friend gave me his large collection of comics and star trek collectibles to get our business started and some more family and friends have helped too. Since then, we have been on our entrepreneur journey; we started by selling in local groups around our area, which is mostly Pasadena, Deerpark area, but we then start to be vendors at Comic conventions my convention was in Katy, and since then, we have done ten the most recent convention was actually last month on the twentieth and ever since we started to do the conventions I realized that there a whole other side to a comic book and collectibles merchant now I see dads and daughters and mothers and sons that bond over collecting comics and funko pops and other collectibles and getting to see them bond over stuff me and my dad and my mom and I love that. We just recently got our dba, and that was so exciting; we also plan on opening an online store in the coming months that will have comics, funko pops, statues, and other collectibles available so more people can get their pop culture want and needs!!!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think any time you set out start your own business no matter what you do, it will not be a smooth road for us at the start; it was hard to get enough capital and knowing where to start, but as long as you really love what you are doing and have passion to keep trying again and again then you will succeed no matter what’s in your way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
We are a comic book store we sell comics, funko pops, statues, and other collectibles one of the things that I am proud of and that I also think sets us apart from other stores is that I really like to make sure there’s something that a family can enjoy together and that make kids happy like when we do our conventions at our booth we bring a spin the wheel that is completely free so the kids can spin and win prizes such as candy, toys, comics, stickers, and I never see any other booth do that at those shows I really want to inspire the youth to read and let them know it’s ok if you like things that other kids don’t and want to create happy memories for families that they will talk about forever and will cherish.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
It has to be going to then comic book store for the first time with my dad. I was excited and didn’t even know what to go look at first; I had a whole pile of comics that I wanted. I remember I got a Batman and flash comic, and that was my first comics that I got for myself and not from my dad’s collection
