Today we’d like to introduce you to The Devenere Law Collective.
It’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Absolutely, thank you for having us! So for us, our journey was best taken with a friend. Having met at Thurgood Marshall School of Law, our partners navigated the ever changing and challenging task of launching their careers. One went into private practice while the other went to work in big law. Many times Kashmire joked that if she ever started her own firm, Jana would be the person she could trust to do it right.
The roots of the Devenere Law Collective (we say the DLC for short) comes from seeing the best of our partners tackling the chaotic and inspiring National Black Law Students Association convention in 2016. This was the first time both ladies were able to see how the other worked professionally. Both were serving in Regional and National positions which made collaboration inevitable. After years of taking different paths individually, the time came for Devenere to open its doors.
The je ne sais quoi, the determination, the drive, and the vision sparked in a Baltimore hotel gave rise to the sophisticated, yet person centered experience that today makes the DLC. Our vision is to change the narrative of how law is practiced by providing an unrelenting standard of representation, impeccable quality in service, and genuine treatment to our clients.
For us it’s simple… We are always professional, but never traditional. The years in which our partners spent apart helped our firm develop an authentic culture that emanates throughout our office. With an ever growing list of clientele, the DLC is truly an emerging force in the city.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh most definitely, the journey has not been an easy road. However, we still wouldn’t change a thing about the path we have taken. Running a business and being an attorney are two separate things, and some days it can be overwhelming. Law school didn’t teach this, so some days we are drawing upon our past employment experience and others our knowledge of business. There is no blueprint on how to do this. Learning to lead as a business owner and a managing partner takes time to understand and most importantly to get right. Remembering that the business is its own person with its own needs, bills, and goals, separate from our individual goals and wishes can be challenging.
Sometimes the business goals and our personal vision do not align. We are truly in the process of learning how to balance between business growth and knowing when we need to sit still as a Company. Generating income, maintaining strong marketing, and obtaining great support staff all while managing cases is real. Over the past year, we have learned to celebrate the silver lining in the day to days, and not just the big wins. Everyday counts as we progress on this journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Let’s just say, it’s something about the way we move! You will not find another team as professional, transparent, and authentic as the DLC team. We invest in you. In the midst of adversity, we execute. We have no problem rolling up our sleeves and getting down in the trenches with whatever matter you throw at us.
Our practice areas include: Probate Litigation, Wills & Estate Planning, Guardianship Law, Entertainment Law, Business Law, Civil Litigation, Intellectual Property and Personal Injury.
The element that we are most proud about with our brand is that we provide an upgraded experience. From the moment you meet our team to the conclusion of your matter, we communicate, and show you our authentic selves with every interaction. There are no fake facades over here. We make it a point to enjoy life and love what we do. Prior to becoming attorneys, we had lives too, so we never forget our genesis.
At the end of every day, we want to help build generational wealth in our clients and our community. We believe in providing long term solutions to problems.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Jana: Playing the judge in my elementary school play about Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
Kashmire: Traveling across the U.S. going to dog shows and agility competitions with my family. (Yes, my family used to breed AKC dogs and show them like on TV …LOL)
