Community Highlights: Meet Tiffynee Terry-thomas of Discipling Mind, Body and Spirit Coaching and Welcome Ministries

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffynee Terry-thomas

Tiffynee, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
At just 25, my life took a harrowing turn. My undergraduate studies were abruptly interrupted as I found myself in and out of hospitals for months, with doctors baffled by my condition. Each discharge came with the same dismissive advice: “If you still feel like this in a week, come back.” But in early August, after a frantic ambulance ride to the emergency room, I received a life-altering diagnosis—I was on the brink of death. My heart, weakened by viral cardiomyopathy, was pumping at a mere 14%, and without immediate intervention, I was told I wouldn’t survive. Placed on a heart transplant list and prescribed over 20 medications, I faced a terrifying reality. Yet, I refused to let this grim prognosis derail my ambitions. I begged my doctors to let me complete my senior year, vowing to manage my health and skip the required Psychology internship.

Through sheer determination, I learned to balance my health with my academic responsibilities, supported by the unwavering encouragement of my teachers, family, and friends. On June 13th, 2011, I proudly graduated from Central Washington University with a 3.0 GPA—on time! My battle with this illness not only strengthened my resolve but also rebuilt my heart, which now functions at an impressive 55%, without the need for a transplant or medical devices.

These hard-won lessons have deeply influenced my professional journey, particularly in supporting survivors of domestic violence (DV). I’ve provided counseling, advocacy, and vital resources, helping them reclaim their independence and personal growth. My success in facilitating large all-women support groups and creating healing workshops led me to pursue a Clinical Sexologist Certification. Since 2019, I’ve conducted over 30 workshops focusing on health, wellness, and sexual education, reaching teens, young adults, men, and women alike. I am also a top-selling author of the book Sis, Is It You? Discovering Self Revelation, where I share my insights on self-discovery and growth.

As a Life Coach, I’ve helped restore relationships between couples, guiding them through difficult conversations and fostering reconciliation. My work in Relationship Coaching, Neuroscience, and Clinical Sexology empowers individuals to achieve transformative change through self-reflection and improved Relational Intelligence—a set of skills that challenge societal norms and promote deeper, more meaningful connections. Additionally, I am actively involved with WelcomeMinistries, a global outreach that equips believers with resources such as books, Bible study materials, and conferences, serving every stream of the Church.

After getting my health back on track, I made a bold move to relocate my family from Washington State to Houston, Texas, seeking a fresh start and an opportunity to expand our territory. Little did I know, starting from the ground up in a new city, far from the familiarity of my hometown where everyone knew me, would be one of the most challenging experiences of my life.

But through these challenges, I was able to rise above. I became a top seller for my book and built a sustainable audience that continues to grow. Every step of the way, God has directed my path and sustained us through these trials, showing me that even in the most difficult times, there is purpose and growth.

Psalm 37:23
A person’s steps are established by the Lord,
and he takes pleasure in his way.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey hasn’t been smooth. Between health scares and financial struggles, my family and I have had to rely entirely on our faith in God to pull us through. Moving from Washington to Texas meant starting over from scratch, and building a new audience here has been anything but easy. Yet, amidst the challenges, I’ve found a silver lining—an opportunity to start fresh and build a solid foundation from the ground up.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
How do I define success? In the past, I measured it by the accolades I collected or the heights I climbed on the ladder of achievement. Today, I define success as completing what I’ve set in my heart to do and knowing I gave it my best. It’s not about seeking approval from others or conforming to cultural standards—it’s about aligning my actions with God’s will. I’m grateful that I no longer define success by the world’s standards but by the way of God’s Word.
Matthew 7:16-20
16 You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. 19 So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. 20 Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.
