Today we’d like to introduce you to Twila Davis.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Twila Davis and I’m the owner of Twilight Candle Company. I teach candle-making classes. It’s like painting or cooking with a twist, instead, we make candles! I’ve been a Chandler (fancy name for Candle Maker) for a little over two years. I love, love, love candles, wax melts, essential oils, plug-ins, and anything to do with home fragrance. Everyone knows I keep a secret stash of home fragrance items at all times (I’m kind of a candle hoarder)!
In 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, I got the idea to make candles. It didn’t look difficult, so I looked at a bunch of videos on YouTube, ordered supplies, and created a small batch of candles.
My daughter knew I was interested in making candles, so she surprised me and took me to a candle-making class at a local studio. I loved it so much I started working at the studio part-time as an instructor. After a while, I decided to take a step back and figure out where my candle-making journey would take me, and Twilight Candle Company was born. It was really by happenstance! But I’m really thankful for this journey.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been smooth, but it hasn’t been extremely difficult either. I recently launched Twilight Candle Company, so everything is still fairly new. I’m still learning and growing. One thing really surprised me. I assumed because I have lots of friends and family that my classes would sell out easily. 500 Facebook friends = 500 Customers, right! I was wrong! I recently hosted my first pop-up workshops in early February, and they were awesome! BUT I had to work really hard to sell the tickets, and I’m working extra hard to sell the tickets for the March workshops too.
Overall, it’s been a great experience.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Twilight Candle Company hosts mobile candle-making workshops and private candle-making events. It’s like painting or cooking workshop, but we make candles, and we bring the experience to you. We can tailor any group experience to meet the needs and overall theme of the host. Types of events: team building, holiday parties, bridal showers, baby shower, ladies night out, couples date nights, or any other experience you would like to make memorable. We walk you through the basics of candle making with a focus on fragrance design. Our guests will blend their own custom scents from our menu of over 100 fragrances and pour their own candles. What makes us different is we are mobile. We bring the experience to you at the location of your choice, but we also host pop-up events around the city in the event you want to have a day or night out on the town.
