Hi Udy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Uduak, friends call me Udy. I’ve always loved planning, from intimate gatherings to large celebrations. What began as a hobby quickly became something more when friends and family started relying on me to bring their visions to life. I realized I had a gift not just for organizing events, but for creating unforgettable experiences.
I officially launched Jolena Events and Weddings almost three years ago, with a clear focus: to redefine excellence in every detail. In the early days, I took on referrals, planned events for free, and treated every opportunity as a chance to build my brand. It wasn’t always easy, but I stayed committed to my vision.
Since then, Jolena Events has grown beyond my expectations—from destination birthdays in Cancun and luxury weddings in Miami to stylish celebrations across Nigeria and the U.S. Our work is now known for thoughtful planning, elegant execution, and personal touches that leave lasting impressions.
Every event is a reflection of our client’s story, and I feel honored to be part of those special moments. This journey has just begun, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all, it’s definitely been a journey with its fair share of challenges.
When I started Jolena Events, I didn’t have a big team or a huge budget. I was building from the ground up—juggling work, motherhood, and entrepreneurship. There were moments of doubt, times I had to take on free or low-paying jobs just to build my portfolio, and plenty of late nights trying to perfect every detail.
One of the biggest challenges was positioning my brand in the luxury space. I had the vision, but getting people to see the value and trust me with their special moments took time. I had to constantly show up, be persistent, and deliver excellence—even when the resources were limited.
But every struggle taught me something valuable. It pushed me to be more creative, more intentional, and more resilient. Looking back, I’m proud of how far we’ve come and even more motivated for what’s next.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I believe that growth and comfort rarely coexist and that’s where risk comes in.
Starting Jolena Events was one of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken. I’m a registered nurse, so stepping into the world of luxury event planning meant leaving the security of a well-established career to pursue a passion that wasn’t guaranteed. I had to invest time, energy, and resources into building something from the ground up while still balancing my responsibilities in healthcare and at home.
One of the boldest risks I took was saying yes to a destination event without knowing the local landscape no vendors, no team, just my vision, determination, and commitment to deliver. That decision stretched me, but it also expanded my brand and gave me the confidence to say: I can do this at a global level.
I’ve learned that risk isn’t about being fearless, it’s about believing in your purpose enough to move forward despite the fear. Being both a nurse and an event planner has taught me resilience, precision, and the power of showing up fully. Every calculated risk I’ve taken has brought growth, new opportunities, and a deeper trust in my journey.
