Community Highlights: Meet Yanet Borrego of YB Coaching

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yanet Borrego.

Hi Yanet, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Havana, Cuba and since I was a child I was always very interested in the mental and emotional aspect of my journey as a human being. I used to write poetry and read books at a very young age. When I was 9 years old, my mom and I moved to Mexico City, where we lived for 3 years. After 3 years we were supposed to go back to Cuba, but instead, we decided to run away and pursue the American Dream. My mom’s priority was to give me a future where I could have options of creating my own path. I was 12 years old when we asked for political asylum at the border of Laredo, TX. That moment changed our lives forever. After we were granted political asylum, we moved to Puerto Rico, an American territory.

I continued my studies in Puerto Rico, where I completed my Chemical Engineering degree. After doing several internships in the Oil & Gas Industry, I was recruited by a Top Fortune 500 company to work in Houston, Texas. At that moment, I felt very accomplished because I was in a position where I could financially support my mom and my family in Cuba. It was my time to give back, and I had studied and worked hard to be where I was. After 6 months of working in corporate, I realized that it wasn’t fulfilling me. I had achieved everything that was considered successful externally, but internally I felt empty.

That is when I started to connect more with who I wanted to be and decided to peel off the layers of expectations of who I was supposed to be. I started reading personal development and leadership books. I remember the first personal development event I ever attended was “Unleash the Power Within” with Tony Robbins. It changed my perspective in so many ways because I met a community of like-minded individuals that were also creating the life they were meant to live. In 2015, I got my first coaching certification from the John Maxwell Team. I felt completely in love with the idea of being a coach and helping people connect to their innate wisdom so they could start creating a purposeful and fulfilled life. Often, we find ourselves looking for answers outside of us and we forget that we already have the answers we are seeking within us. I think it’s a matter of asking ourselves the right questions and trusting the answers we get. I truly believe we are here to own our story and thrive, not only survive. Living at our highest potential is not a should, it’s a must. That is the principle that I live my life by.

I worked 9 years in Corporate with 2 wonderful Fortune 500 Companies as an Engineer, Supply Chain Expert, and Management & Strategy Consultant. In those 9 years, I also built my coaching practice on the side, got certified as a coach, speaker, and trainer under the John Maxwell Team, and got board Certified by the Association for Integrative Psychology as a Master Practitioner, Trainer, and Coach of Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Hypnosis.

I always knew that at some point in my career I was going to make the transition from Corporate to full-time entrepreneurship. My vision was to align my passion and purpose to my career, and to coach others to do the same. In March of 2021, a very close family member passed away from cancer, and that event put everything into perspective. What was I waiting for? What was I afraid of? Life is so short, and the only moment we have is now. In April of 2021, I took the decision to leave my 9 years Corporate career and pursue something that I truly believed in. I turned my side hustle, coaching, into my full-time career.

I fully embraced my identity as a Clarity & Mindset Coach, Speaker, and Trainer after leaving my corporate job. I am very passionate about helping people find clarity & direction, master their mindset, and create a life on their own terms. Coaching is an inside-out journey, and it’s very action oriented. As a coach, I have the tools and techniques to help my clients access the answers within themselves and master their inner world. Once we have those answers, we set actionable goals so they can take aligned action to bridge the gap between where they are and where they want to be. What I enjoy the most is seeing the huge transformation my clients have and how much more fulfillment they experience when they decide to prioritize themselves. When you have gotten better at mastering your inner world, you can make anything happen!

When I was in Corporate, I was thirsty for stories of people like me who were trying to figure out their career path into entrepreneurship. At that moment, I had the idea of creating a video series to amplify the voices of people who were living their purpose. With this in mind, I also created the “With Clarity & Purpose” podcast last year. Every week I bring the listeners an inspiring person or message to empower them to live life on their terms so they can be who they want to be, do what they are meant to do, and have what they deserve to have. Now, I get to listen to other people’s inspiring stories first-hand while I continue to pursue my own coaching and speaking dreams.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been many challenges in the journey of aligning my career to my passion. I think one of the struggles has been taking decisions driven by internal fulfillment rather than external validation. I used to be worried about what others would think of me, leaving a successful six-figure corporate career to dedicate my life to coaching, speaking, and teaching others to master their internal world. Letting go of “people-pleasing” and truly connecting with what’s going to make me feel fulfilled was a very important step in allowing me to move toward how I wanted to make an impact in this world.

One of the beliefs I had to release was thinking that my past defined my future. My biggest realization was that I can create a new future in any instant, because we all have the potential to do so. The fact that I studied Chemical Engineering didn’t mean that I couldn’t learn and do something else.

I used to be afraid of being seen as starting small and starting from zero. This was a short-sighted perspective; we are going to get so much further in our careers if we truly enjoy and believe in what we are doing. What helped me was creating a compelling future and having a long-term vision of who I wanted to be 10 years from now.

Another struggle has been mentorship. When I used to work in corporate, mentorship was available everywhere because I was part of huge organizations working towards the same mission. In a corporate environment, there are systems and structures in place that you can tap into. As I started my entrepreneurial journey, I realized that I had to proactively seek those relationships and build my own network of people going through a similar journey. Entrepreneurship is not a laid-out path, but it’s something you are consistently creating day by day. Building a community is something I have been working on, and every week I block time in my calendar to interact with a community of entrepreneurs. It truly helps to build a sense of belonging and empowerment.

We’ve been impressed with YB Coaching, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am Clarity & Mindset Coach, Speaker, and Trainer. I help people find clarity & direction, master their mindset, and create a life on their own terms. I specialize in the area of helping people gain clarity on what they are passionate about and guide them through aligning their passion to their career, just like I did. I am also the host of the “With Clarity & Purpose” podcast where I bring every week an inspiring person or message to empower them to live life on their terms so they can be who they want to be, do what they are meant to do, and have what they deserve to have.

What sets me apart from others is that I have an in depth understanding of how the mind works, allowing me to guide my clients and students to create lasting change. I have an extensive list of certifications and a wide range of experiences that I apply in my coaching practice. I am a Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) expert. NLP uses the language of the mind to reprogram our internal applications to consistently support us in achieving our desired outcomes. I help my clients align their unconscious programming with their conscious desires so they can create sustainable and empowered change. All my coaching and speaking brand is related to living a purpose-driven and intentional life and that’s what I’m the proudest of. I am helping people realize that they already have all the resources they need to succeed within them, and that they are the creators of their reality. Once they master their internal world, anything is possible!

I offer a 3 and 6 months 1:1 coaching program where I help my clients master their mental & emotional internal world so they can bridge the gap of where they are and where they want to be. I am also a speaker, giving talks and running workshops to help people gain clarity & direction, master their mindset, and live a purpose-driven and fulfilling life. I am in the final stages of creating my “Discover your Purpose” digital course, which will be launched in March 2022. In this course, I share a proven step-by-step roadmap so my students can discover their purpose, and gain clarity & direction in their careers so they can start creating a legacy that empowers the world. Everything starts with having a clear direction, and for this reason, I have created a free resource to help our readers boost their clarity to make faster and better decisions: www.ybcoaching.com/clarity.
