Community Highlights: Meet Yulia Sharapova of YS Homes LLC DBA Sharapova & Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yulia Sharapova.

Hi Yulia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Russia, where I developed a strong personality and a resilient mindset early in life. Life truly put that strength to the test when I found myself in the U.S. as a newly single mother with two young children, no job, and no money. I had full custody, no support system, and was essentially starting from ground zero. But I’ve always believed that challenges are just opportunities in disguise.

I’ve always loved numbers, so I focused on building a new life through education. I went back to school, earned a degree, and worked my way up to becoming a licensed CPA. My career in accounting took off quickly. Every company I worked for recognized my work, and I was proud to contribute to each one’s growth and success.

One of the defining moments in my career was when I joined a national company as a corporate controller. The financials were in rough shape, and I saw a big opportunity to make a difference. Over the course of a year, I applied everything I knew—streamlining processes, building strong systems, and optimizing operations. Once things were running smoothly, I had a realization: there are so many businesses out there that need this kind of support.

That’s when the idea of starting my own firm was born.

Launching my business was anything but easy. I had to wear every hat—social media manager, IT support, sales rep, admin, strategist. I’m naturally more introverted, so I even had to teach myself how to be more outgoing and comfortable in the spotlight (still working on it!). On top of all that, I was still working full time, raising two kids, and continuing my professional education—attending conferences, taking courses, and making sure I stayed ahead in this complex field.

There were sleepless nights, sacrifices, and moments of self-doubt, but I never stopped believing in myself. That belief is what’s kept me going. Today, I run a growing accounting and tax advisory firm that helps businesses navigate the complexities of finance and taxation, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come. There’s still a long road ahead, but I know it’s worth it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road—far from it. The journey has been filled with challenges, both personal and professional. When I first started, I was juggling being a full-time single mom with no support, working full-time, studying for my CPA, and trying to build a business from scratch. There were many moments where I felt overwhelmed, stretched too thin, and unsure if I could keep going.

Starting a business meant stepping way outside of my comfort zone. I had to become everything at once—marketer, tech support, content creator, salesperson. I’m naturally introverted, so putting myself out there and learning how to promote my services, especially on social media, was one of the hardest parts. I had to learn to be visible, to connect, to build relationships—and I’m still learning.

There were also financial struggles early on. Investing in a business when you’re still trying to stabilize your own life is a big risk. Every decision felt heavy because there was so much on the line—not just for me, but for my kids.

But through it all, I kept going because I knew what I was capable of. Every obstacle taught me something new. Every setback made me stronger. And every small win reminded me that I was building something meaningful—not just for myself, but for the people and businesses I serve.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about YS Homes LLC DBA Sharapova & Co.?
I’m the founder of Sharapova & Co., an accounting and tax advisory firm based in Houston. We specialize in working with electrical businesses—everything from solar and fiber to automation systems, substations, panel shops, and residential or industrial electrical contractors. These are businesses that power our world, and they deserve the same level of expertise, precision, and strategic thinking they bring to their work.

What sets us apart is that we don’t just file taxes or do bookkeeping—we help our clients build stronger, smarter businesses through strategic tax planning and financial insight. I’ve walked in the shoes of a corporate controller for a national company, turned around financials, implemented efficient systems, and built processes from the ground up. Now, I bring that same level of hands-on, high-level support to small and mid-sized companies that need it most.

We’re known for being deeply involved in our clients’ success. I don’t believe in cookie-cutter services—every client has a different story, and we customize our approach to meet their needs, goals, and growth stage. Whether it’s tax planning, entity structuring, compliance, or simply helping a business owner understand their numbers—we’re here not just as service providers, but as true partners.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust we’ve built. Most of our clients come from referrals, and that means everything to me. People know that when they work with us, they’re not just getting a tax preparer or a bookkeeper—they’re getting an advisor who truly cares about their business and has the knowledge and drive to make a difference.

I want your readers to know that we’re here for the builders—the electrical companies, the contractors, the problem solvers. If you’re growing and ready to take control of your finances, we’ll meet you where you are and help you get to the next level.

How do you think about luck?
I truly believe that luck has played a role in my journey—especially in those moments when things felt impossible. Every time I thought I had hit a dead end, when I couldn’t see a clear path forward, life had a way of showing me an unexpected opportunity. Whether it was meeting the right person at the right time, finding a job that opened a new door, or stumbling upon a resource that gave me exactly what I needed—I’ve had those moments of “good luck” that helped me keep going.

But I also believe that luck only works when you’re already doing the hard work. I was always pushing, always learning, always moving forward, even when things were uncertain. And I think life rewards that kind of effort. So yes, luck helped—but it met me halfway. And I’m grateful for every one of those moments that kept me moving forward.
