Hi Dominique, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
This beautiful nugget in my life started from a comment by one of my best friends after I hosted and decorated for her baby shower. She said, “You missed your blessing. This is absolutely beautiful! “The comment stuck out and a light bulb 💡 went off! That was January 2020, right before COVID-19 took over and I only had two other events prior to March’s shut down. Thereafter, I was receiving messages and calls about providing services for drive-by and backyard parties. COVID-19 created an avenue for me to flourish while maintaining all precautions. Since March, I’ve been booked and extremely busy almost every weekend with two to five parties! I enjoy seeing the big reveal expressions from each of my clients! It keeps me busy and so rewarding!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely hasn’t been the smoothest road. I had to learn about, especially with types of balloons, different services to offer, reading the client’s mind, affordable pricing, budgeting, etc. My biggest struggle was outdoor events and Houston’s hot summer of record-breaking Temps. I was fortunate to do I party set-up for DeAndre Hopkins during the summer. I completed my setup that morning. Once the afternoon hit, balloons were pooped and it looked a complete mess. I had to rush back to salvage what I could to make sure the party-goers had photo opportunities with the decor! It was such a stressful day! However, before I left the party attendees, we saying how beautiful everything was! It’s the part that makes my day.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in backdrops and balloon decor. However, I have a team of talented individuals that collaborate with me on customized wood cutting, Neon signs, table settings, lightening, entertainment, and sooooo much MORE! Each event is personalized for each client! I’m proud of the “final look” at the end of each setup! That one photo 📷 gets the attention of hundreds! I love to be the talk of the town. Only for good quality service, of course! I believe my southern hospitality, charm, and attention to detail sets me apart from other event planners/ balloon decorators!
We’d be interested in hearing your thoughts on luck and what role you feel it’s played for you?
Luck had played a role in my life and business because if I want “lucky” enough to really hear what my best friend said, “you missed your calling!” I wouldn’t have come this far! Luck has it that I’ve had opportunities to work with NFL players, Houston rappers, and socialites! I’m blessed and full of luck! I hope it doesn’t run out!
