Today we’d like to introduce you to Amira Roman.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve moved here from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and took a big leap of faith coming to Houston in December 2016. Leaving family and friends hundreds of miles away and coming here to farther my career as a Radiologic Technologist. Being in a new town and not knowing a lot of people was very tough at the beginning.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was tough for the first couple of weeks. I naively left a bag in my car overnight filled with all of my most important papers, passport, social security card, ID, baby pictures, diplomas and memories from childhood. All were gone because someone broke into my car and took everything. I was devastated. That incident set me back about three months because I had to get all of my papers in order for me to apply for a job and work.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist at heart, I love painting, obstruct drawing and anything artistic. Some of my artwork is very bright with vibrant colors and some are just black and white simple with lots of emotions. I currently work for MD Anderson cancer center as an MRI Technologist, I’m very proud of myself for taking that leap of faith three years ago and today being able to work at the number one cancer in the world. My career has taken center stage for the past couple of years, but now, I’m trying to get back to what I love most which is art.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
Oprah Winfrey, she faced a lot of adversities early on in life, but she did not let that determine her future.
