Conversations with the Inspiring Amy K. Barker Richards

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy K. Barker Richards.

Amy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Hello friends, my name is Amy! I am a lover of anything monogrammed, I love celebrating anything and everything, I have a passion for fashion and anything that brings a smile to my little boy’s face! I would describe my style as “traditional topped with sprinkles.” I am a momma to two precious boys, one with two legs and one with four, a wife to my husband Austin and a full-time businesswoman. I have true southern roots and my family is my true love!

Have you ever looked at Pinterest and wondered how they created that perfect festive treat, seen a mom at drop-off that was wearing the newest trend, needed an idea for a teacher gift or friend who was going through a season of life? I sure have! I am not an expert in anything but when I find a great deal or idea I love to share. All of us have “gifts” and if we share our strengths with others and collaborate, we all win! This blog is designed to do exactly that. Hopefully, you can find a cute meal idea, the perfect outfit you were looking for, a simple idea that helps makes your life easier or a verse of inspiration that brings a smile to your face.

I truly hope you enjoy the blog and it leaves you with a smile. Life is too short not to smile, as my dad would say “smile that smile, the world is a better place with your smile.”

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The Gingham Gator became and outlet for me through many of life’s ups and downs. Life has many seasons and one outlet I always go back to is my creative side. I love to create and I love to see smiles in people. My husband seems to think if there is not a season to celebrate, I make one up and maybe that is true. One thing I have learned in my life so far (I say so far because I am constantly trying to learn new things) is this life is way to short not to have fun and celebrate along the way. You never know what you could be facing tomorrow so you might as well celebrate today and smile!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Gingham Gator story. Tell us more about the business.
I love to scout that “unique finding” that is the perfect touch or that thoughtful gift that brings a smile to someone’s face. I love a good theme, creating a vision and seeing it all come together. I am also a lover of anything monogrammed and can usually find a way to add personalization to almost anything. I can not say I am an expert at anything but I love to share ideas and hope it that my shenanigans bring a smile to someone’s face or lights a spark in someone else! I may not have the prettiest pictures or perfect video but it is because I am usually just winging it!

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
My bible, I cling to certain verses and I am trying to dive deeper into my faith as I parent my son. I am a huge fan of Karen Stubbs and her “Birds on a Wire” bible studies. I have never really been able to follow most studies all the way through but Karen’s studies seem to always have just the right words! I have seen her in person several times and I just want to be her neighbor and soak up all of her wisdom!
