Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariadne Pollitt.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ariadne. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My mom started my love for fashion and creativity at a young age. As a child, I would write stories, draw pictures by looking at a photo and I always took pride in how I looked. Losing my mom and dad before the age of 18 paused my creative juices to slow down for a little, but I was still rocking the outfits. Graduating high school and going to Prairie View A&M University start my creative flow again. Then, being hit with the loss of my uncle (who was like a father), this had a different reaction for me. It pushed me to work even harder. All that I do is for my own goals and accomplishments. If there is anything that I have learned, it’s being your own BEAST and PUSH yourself because, at the end of the day, you rely on you.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Let’s be honest, the road is not always easy. I would be lying if I said I always feel amazing. Half the time, I’m a messy bun, tights, t-shirt and tennis kind of girl when running errands. The last two years have been extremely hard because my body was tripping. I thought it was the process of getting older. It took me getting to a point where my joints hurt and legs were swollen in order for me to go to the doctor. This sent me into a slight depression because I felt as though my body was letting me down and I didn’t know why. I have always been an active person from Color Guard to Softball. I have and am the one to push through anything but this had me walking in pain every day sometimes pushing me to tears. I stopped competing, I stopped auditioning for shows and didn’t even what to get dressed to go to work. After, a visit to the doctor and finding out that I’m in great condition, but my stress levels were off the charts and causing all of the issues I was having. I took it upon myself to make some changes. I had to snap out of it and get back to ME. I started with daily motivation, my bathroom mirror started looking like Marry Jane’s in Being Mary Jane. Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. It is still posted and I read it every day. I knew I had to start putting energy into something that would calm me down and was something I enjoyed. APcreates Custom Tumblers was born from this. It allowed me to redirect the stress into something positive that added joy to my life and placed me in a better mood over all. Being rooted in God and having a strong support system and the GRIT, would not allow me to stop even on my hardest days. Be true to yourself and understand that you can only control you. Find peace in that. If you are not 100%, you can’t help anyone around you. The key is knowing that you have to believe in yourself before anyone else can or will believe in you.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I have always loved fashion and dressing, like any other woman. Personal styling came along as I got compliments whenever I would move around town or go to an event. My friends would ask my advice on what they should wear or if an outfit would work for a certain occasion. When IG was born, I starting posting my #ootd. I felt there was a need for plus size women to have the opportunity to look for outfit inspiration along with morning motivation. My styling focuses on basic items and plugs in trendy ones. I also show how not everything has to be a label. in order to look good. Don’t get it twisted, I love labels and have them hanging in my closet, but it’s not all about labels. My purpose, is for plus-size women to see that mixing low-end with high-end often looks better then walking around looking, like a walking billboard. I also want plus-size woman to see that they don’t have to wear something that look like a potatoes sack, or exposes everything in order to be Gorgeous, Beautiful, and Sexy. Competing in Pageants and walking a few runway shows, often being one of only a few plus size ladies pushes me to want more for the community and @ap_thecurvymodel on IG was born.
I’m known for being outgoing, social, creative, goal driven, a hustler, go getter and Best Dressed.
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
