Conversations with the Inspiring Asma Akter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asma Akter.

Asma, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my blogging journey seriously not so long ago. Before, it was just a hobby to make my food look beautiful & take a nice picture to post on Instagram. The satisfaction I get from this makes me think to take it seriously and leaving my banking job. So, I started a YouTube Channel & a website & focusing on to make it a successful brand.

Has it been a smooth road?
For me, it was not an easy decision. Also, I was not clear if it doable at all. My friends & family even exactly dont understand what I am doing. For them, blogging or becoming an influencer is kinda teenage thing and it should be a hobby, not a job replacement. So, my suggestions for newbies are: #1 Be clear about what you want from this or where exactly you want to take blogging. #2 Study about your field of interest. Read about others Journey. #3 Do not let anyone discourage it. If someone else can do you can do too. maybe not in the same way but you will find your way.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into FoodnEverythingElse story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a self-taught food photographer & recipe Developer. I develop Vegan recipes. Also, recreate traditional recipes as Vegan recipe.

I born & raised in Dhaka, Bangladesh, living in Houston, Texas from 2007. When I first moved here with my parents I didn’t have any friends. On my off days, I & my mom used to explore the different area of the city and try new food and new restaurants. Similarities & differences of different cuisines make me amazed.

For example, Hummus, refried beans & Bengali Daler (bean) vorta are coming from the same concept… MASHED THE BEANS. The difference is in the process and spices. Isn’t it interesting!

But then, I want many of that new food in my way and more healthy way. And that’s how I started to make different recipes from different cuisines at Home. Also, some personal incidents & health issues like thyroid, depression change my food choices in recent years. Like I used to have the green smoothie every single day but now I eat my greens more in soup or in a sauteed way. I manage my depression & thyroid by choosing my food consciously. And I want to help others by sharing what helps me.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
To me, it’s a mindset. Most women don’t want to take lead, but if their mindset about is set to take the lead, they are powerful than anyone.
