Conversations with the Inspiring Brittney Feliciano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Feliciano.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always appreciated the art and heart behind photography, but didn’t really dive into it until a friend started inviting me to model for him. He’s also a photographer and wanted different people to shoot. Our shoots would always lead to him showing me how to use a camera to the point where I would start shooting him on his camera instead of me modeling as much.

At the same time, this was happening, I was telling my mentor about these ‘cool’ experiences I was having and how photography interested me. My mentor ended up sharing these stories with his wife – who is an amazing photographer. She selflessly lent me one of her camera’s and encouraged me to use it until I felt as though I was comfortable enough to decide what I wanted to do next.

Little did each of the two people know, but they were major influences of my life taking a complete turn. I was at a point in my life where I didn’t know what I wanted to do, nor did I even know where or how to take a “first step.” They encouraged and poured into me when I didn’t believe in myself and in turn – I’m here today, in my final semester of school. In December, I’ll be receiving my degree in Digital Photography.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This hasn’t been the “smoothest” road, but I truly believe that’s what makes everyone’s story so special. People always believe and have faith in the “finish line goal” but seem to forget about the hurdles and obstacles that are placed along the way. Those hurdles and obstacles are what build our character and develop strength within us to keep going to get to the end goal.

Some of my personal struggles along the way have been losing loved ones, having self-doubt, and understanding that comparison kills my passion from within.

If I could give any advice for someone who is just starting their journey, it would be to be around a community of women. Women who will speak life into your dreams, encourage you and help you along the way. I’ve been blessed to have a handful of girls who have encouraged me when I struggled with self-doubt, comparison, and when I didn’t feel worthy of my calling. Having the right people in your life that will guide you back to the right side of the road when you veer off is SO important. I’m thankful for them.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into photographs by britt feliciano story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a portrait photographer. I have the privilege of photographing people of all ages, ethnicities, shapes, and backgrounds. Photographs hold memories, remind people of the beauty in the past, and allows for the sharing of stories from that one ‘capture’ of a moment. It’s an honor knowing that I have been given the responsibility of capturing people’s personal memories, vulnerable states, and everything in between.

I’ve started an on-going vulnerability project. I create visuals for different struggles people have faced in their life. Some of the ones I’ve created feature: bullying, name-calling, eating disorders, and isolation. I ask the person to share something that they’ve personally struggled with and we create art that will provoke emotions and (hopefully) conversations to change for the better. My goal ultimately is to remind everyone that they’re not alone in whatever they struggle with. It’s the piece of work I’m most proud of but also most intimate in my portfolio.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My mother is my biggest inspiration and light in my life. My mother got into a major life-altering car accident when I was younger and it has left her handicapped. She could have used that as an excuse to give up, but she is resilient. She works hard to create a culture of unity and love in our family, she fights through her physical pain and puts all of us first. Through my mother’s actions – she shows me what it means to be selfless, to love, and to continue to put family first. I’ve learned so much of how to be a strong woman of Faith from her, and I’m forever thankful for her inspiration. She’s my number one “fan” – but I’m her biggest fan.
