Conversations with the Inspiring Gina Linton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Linton.

Gina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m just a girl from Gary, IN who wanted to be someone important. I moved to Port Arthur, TX at the age of nine in 1996. I was from the oldest of five children with a single mother. I was a product of my environment. I skipped school, sold drugs, and did a lot of fighting. One day, I wanted to change my life around and be someone my mom could be proud of. I finished high school and went to college at Lamar State College-Port Arthur for Cosmetology. I received my degree in 2009 and after that, the sky was the limit. I gave my life to Christ and join Rhema Word Ministry in Port Arthur and my life was never the same. I strive for success. No more drugs, no more living recklessly, no more ghetto, no more negativity! I surrounded myself around people who had the same mind frame and that was entrepreneurship. Women that was striving and making a name for them self. They taught me how to be a young successful black educated woman. After years of consistent elevation, I opened up my own business with my best friend Lasan Gilder called De’ Luxe Cheveux Salon in Beaumont, Texas.

I’m heavily involved in the community. I’m a member of CASA, Junior League of Beaumont, a graduate of Leadership of Beaumont, graduated with a diploma in Theology, and now pursuing my dream of becoming an Attorney. I want to be a Civil Right Activist and run for office in Beaumont one day. I have a wonderful family and married to the greatest guy on earth Charles Linton. I’m an active Minister at my church, youth choir director, youth minister and armor bearer. Without God, I wouldn’t be here today. I give Him thanks for creating me to be the woman of my dreams.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road is never smooth. There will always be some obstacles. The only thing that kept me rolling was God, family, and friends. My advice to any woman is never lose your vision! Be consistent! Stay away from negative people! Surround yourself around people who will help elevate you. Always stay humble and support other people. If you fall, pick yourself back again. Know that God’s ways are not our ways and his thoughts are not our thoughts! Trust the process sister!
