Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Ramagos.
Kayla, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Since a little girl, I always had an eye for fashion. Whether it was dressing up my Barbie dolls, playing dress up in my mother’s clothes, or simply enjoying the shopping trips where I got to shop ’till I dropped! As I got older, fashion and the way I dressed became apart of my identity. I would always hear people compliment the way I dressed or tell me once I got to college I should major in fashion; of course I didn’t listen. My friends and family would always come to me for styling advice, but I just never took my talent seriously.
It wasn’t until I went to New York Fashion Week and had a chance to experience the rush of Christian Siriano’s Fall/Winter ’19 collection debut, that I truly appreciated the art of fashion. It was in that moment I realized I didn’t want to just play dress up in mommy’s clothes anymore, I didn’t want to just hear the compliments in passing on my outfits, I wanted to turn something that was just a hobby into a career I was passionate about.
So one of my goals for 2019 was to start my own Personal Styling business, Konstructed By K.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth?! I have to laugh lol! Although I just launched Konstructed By K, the journey has not been easy. But you know what they say, nothing worth having comes easy, right? The hardest obstacle I have encountered so far is me trying to get out my own head. Starting a business is already hard, but then there comes the self-doubt, the indecisiveness, and the need for reassurance. I have had to learn to be confident in myself and the work I put out, especially as a woman. I had to learn to not worry about the people who aren’t supporting me, and focus on the people who show up and show out for my craft every time.
Some advice I would give:
Don’t let the self-doubt turn into you being unmotivated. God put this talent in my life for a reason. He put me on this path to be the best I could be, so who am I to not succeed? Even if you fail, you have to dust yourself off and try again. If you aren’t confident in your work, why should anyone else be?
Make your money! Trying to pinpoint the perfect price for my service was a struggle. You think about the clientele you’re trying to reach, you think about how much people are actually willing to pay for your services. Am I charging too much because I’m just starting out? Am I selling myself short by charging less than the other people in the industry? There are so many things to think about that goes into starting a business. Make sure to do your research before you do anything!
The last piece of advice I would give: Love what you do! Be passionate about your talent, love your art. Your content will thank you later!
What should we know about Konstructed By K? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Konstructed by K is a luxury image consulting business where we bring client’s visions to life! The thing that makes me the most proud about Konstructed by K is that I can call it my own. I can make someone feel exactly how I feel when I put on a new outfit or a new pair of shoes. You can feel the happiness and the joy run through your body. Konstructed by K wants every client to feel confident in the skin they’re in and looking good while doing so! I strive to fulfill the need of every client and take their style and confidence to the next level. Nothing beats the look on their face when they see different ways and looks we can pull together!
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
The first woman who has inspired me in my life would be my mom! She is the epitome of strength. She is the person I look to for advice, the person I share my good news with, and my all-time confidant. If you ask me where I get my fashion sense from, it would definitely be her. Watching her put together unique pieces nobody would even think of has definitely inspired me to think outside the box when it comes to style. She sacrifices so much for my brother and I, I can only imagine being half the woman she is.
The second person would be June Ambrose. I just love her! From the way she styles celebrities, to the way she dresses herself, to her overall personality! She is definitely my fashion soul sister.
