Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristi McKim.
Kristi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The vision for SallyBrooke began years ago. My biggest fan, my mother, encouraged me to follow my simple dream… that was. to create a place that people could come & make memories. She had always been the ultimate entertainer, as she planned every holiday dinner and gathering to a tee… she taught me well… I’ve owned the property since 2002, and at that time, we named the property, SallyBrooke… after two of my beloved labradors. Sally was first born, chocolate lab… and sweet blonde boy Brooke was my male biscuit colored lab. In 2016, I had the opportunity to begin the remodeling of my pole barn. As an artist, my goal was to create a very authentic, beautiful space. So, reclaimed wood was procured, I bought vintage lighting, and shabby farm tables & misfit chairs. All chalk painted to accent this amazing room. Our first wedding was in Oct. of 2016! And we were off to the races. We have continued to add dancefloor areas, miles of string lights, parking, covered patios. Walkways to parking, creative prop, and decor… you name it… we are in constant motion creating a picture perfect place for our weddings and events… I am ever grateful, now nearly two years in business, to have shared amazing weddings, and unforgettable life events with wonderful people that come my way. I know my mother is smiling down on me, as Sallybrooke is consistently booked and busy!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Stay the course. Take a leap of faith!!!
There will always be obstacles. We all find ourselves limited by issues like money, time, energy. And it’s easy to tell ourselves to stop or wait… but thankfully, with strength and gumption, remember, that giant mountains can become molehills. I’ve been blessed with close friends and family, that are super supportive… in fact, one of my besties gave me the most amazing metal plaque, that sits near my front door… it’s a reminder of all things possible every day…
It says… they said, “ You Can’t”.
She said… “Watch Me!”
It’s inspiration every day!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into SallyBrooke Event Venue story. Tell us more about the business.
I tend to say that we aren’t married to weddings! However, we have had many beautiful weddings at SallyBrooke. And we also are happy to note that SallyBrooke have become “the place” for Bridal & Baby showers… my goal is the help with every detail. I love decorating for the events. I am accumulating so much wonderful decor from our brides and party hosts! I’ve created a “Share the Love” closet that houses, table linens, centerpieces, lantern, props, tons of items available for use at SallyBrooke. Let’s just say, sharing the love forward!!! I love what I do. It’s the best job a girl could ever ask for… my eye for design helps to give our brides the stylized look they envision. I’ve created a comfortably hidden gem for my guests… our events are “out of the box” customized for them, every step of the way… loving every detail. I’m having a blast!
