Conversations with the Inspiring Lindsay Rhodes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Rhodes.

Lindsay, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In May 2017, I graduated from Texas A&M University and began working a desk job in a human resources department. Though I loved my manager and I was good at my job, I began craving more of a creative outlet. I had always loved putting outfits together and decorating my apartment. Because of this, I thought, “Why don’t I just start a blog?” Within a few weeks, I had started an Instagram account and purchased a domain name. Style With Linds was born and I have fallen more in love with it every week.

In less than a year, weekly photo sessions and outfit planning have become part of my daily routine. To me, it doesn’t necessarily even matter how many followers I have, a place for me to express my passion is what I enjoy. I have the drive to do what I love and to make other women feel confident and beautiful every day. Even if I can uplift one person’s spirits through fashion and lifestyle, I feel I have achieved something.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been easy all the time! Sometimes, you see others grow their followings so quickly and you think “I’ll never be as successful!” But, I pause and remind myself that isn’t why I created my blog and that success isn’t the same for everyone. There are also so many times where I am my own worst critic and think my writing could have been better, I could’ve looked better in a picture or I could have engaged more with my audience. But everyone is human and we as women need to be kinder to ourselves.

My advice to other young women just starting their journey is just to start! So many of us say that we’ll start a blog once we do “x” or that we’ll start a business once we have achieved “y” yet we never do it. One of the hardest parts of the process is just starting. If you have a drive or passion to do something, whatever it may be, sit down and JUST DO IT! I promise you will never regret reaching for your dreams.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Style With Linds story. Tell us more about the business.
I had typically been known amongst friends as a shopper and have had a passion for putting things together since I was a kid. I hadn’t really known how to make that interest into a creative process until blogging became popular. I wanted to grow a community of women who love the same things and desire to make a difference every day. Women don’t just put on that LBD to look good. They do it for that feeling of confidence it gives them; the feeling that they can take on the world. I wanted to be part of the process that gives women that feeling, so Style With Linds was created.

I am so proud that I am able to put out content that connects with people. I have created friendships with other bloggers and am able to give/receive advice on a near-daily basis. I have been able to foster an environment of kindness and positivity that is due, in part, to the way I publish my content. I do not post images that edit out any form of blemishes, scars, or belly rolls. Along with this, I like to make blog posts and Instagram stories that address stress, work-life balance, and other daily issues. I believe that this sort of “realness” is what is strongly a part of my brand and will stand out in my work for years to come.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
There are so many opportunities for women! We are more empowered than ever before and we have so many strong female leaders to look up to for inspiration (I’m looking at you Oprah!) I think we are well suited for leadership roles due to the high level of compassion that women typically have relative to men. I believe that we are also well suited for entrepreneurship as well as freelance/online work. These sort of careers allow women to more easily “have it all” than ever before by easily allowing women to work from home to spend more time with their family and rock the business world. The rise of social media has opened so many doors for women to pave their own path and create their own careers that they have always dreamed of. Because of this, I cannot WAIT to see what women accomplish!
