Conversations with the Inspiring Lindsey Pike

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Pike.

Lindsey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I had my first child in February 2017. I had resigned as a high school counselor in December 2016 to be a Stay at Home Mom. I had always wanted to be at Stay at Home Mom and I was very excited that I would have the opportunity to be able to stay home with my son once he was born. One thing they don’t tell you about being a Stay at Home Mom is that it can be very lonely. I just assumed that once I was a mom I would have tons of mom friends. When my son was old enough we tried out different mommy and me classes but I really struggled to connect and make friends with the moms in the different activities. My mom suggested a stroller fitness class and I found a group, Baby Boot Camp in Cypress. I tried my first Baby Boot Camp class in February 2018 and knew I had found the perfect fit for me and my son, Trey. I was getting back into shape after being pregnant, getting out of the house every morning and spending time around other mom’s with children close to my son’s age.

Joining Baby Boot Camp was absolutely life-changing for me as a mom. I have made the dearest friends through Baby Boot Camp and so has my son. In July of 2019, the previous owner of Baby Boot Camp Cypress approached me about becoming an instructor and I started teaching in August 2019. I loved being able to help other moms get back into shape and enjoy time outside of the house. A couple of months later, I was given the opportunity to take over as owner of Baby Boot Camp Cypress. In November 2019, I took ownership of Baby Boot Camp Cypress. I honestly never thought I would own my own business. It has been such a learning experience for me to become a business owner but most importantly, I am able to share Baby Boot Camp with other moms in the Cypress area. I want everyone that comes to one of our classes to immediately feel welcomed and apart of our group. As moms, we desperately need to love and support of other moms and that is what I want my moms to have with Baby Boot Camp Cypress.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a pretty crazy five months taking over Baby Boot Camp. I had so many different things to get into place in a very short amount of time in order to legally purchase a small business. I have had to learn A LOT about owning a business and marketing the business. Marketing and selling things is VERY much out of my comfort zone and at times I questioned if I had made the right decision. My heart is 100% in Baby Boot Camp and what is does for moms that I knew I had made the right decision. I think my love for Baby Boot Camp makes the sales aspect easier for me bc I truly love what I am offering to moms.

When I took ownership, I reached out to all my moms and asked for their input on what things they would love to see change and stay the same about Baby Boot Camp from the previous owner. My moms had the best ideas and really helped me figure out how to provide the best service to them. I am not good at event planning and find it very overwhelming and tedious, I found out that one of my mom’s LOVES event planning and coordinating all our social events. She has taken over our event planning and she has come up with the best ideas of our playdates and mom’s nights. It has allowed me focus solely on the business and fitness aspect of Baby Boot Camp and I feel that it has allowed our group to grow and become stronger.

I think it’s very important to find something that you hold very close to your heart and are passionate about. It quiets any doubt I might have and makes stressful and overwhelming days manageable. You have to put the hard work into something if you truly love it and want it to grow. Know what your strengths and weaknesses are and find people who can help you work through your weaknesses.

What should we know about Baby Boot Camp-Cypress? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We cater to moms at all fitness levels and meet them where they are. I want my workouts to be challenging but I also want everyone to feel like are capable to pushing themselves physically. One of the most unique things about Baby Boot Camp is that you workout with your children. We incorporate our strollers and children into our workouts. The moms are getting to socialize with other moms and the kids are also getting to socialize as well.

Baby Boot Camp Cypress is more than just a workout. We have playdates throughout the week and mom’s nights every month. We give moms a physical outlet and a community of other moms. When you walk into a Baby Boot Camp class you will feel a sense of community, support and love. I think the sense of welcomeness and community is what makes Baby Boot Camp Cypress different from any other workout experience.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Find something that you love to do and take risks. Being a new and first time business owner is so scary and so challenging but I absolutely LOVE Baby Boot Camp and know that the risk I took taking over is worth it.
