Today we’d like to introduce you to Lalo Montoya and Alex Betancourt.
Lalo and Alex, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
MexiPaws began two years ago when I brought a collar that I designed myself for my dog with handmade materials produced by artisan workers. As everyone, we knew and met in our local dog parks or on walks continuously commented on how much they liked our pups collar, and everyone kept asking about it. With that said, we decided to start an online store, www.mexipawsboutique.com, with all the products we designed in Mexico and imported to the United States. The success of our products is once someone is interested and purchases our accessories, they are being handed a unique product of vibrant designs done by hand in Mexico.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course, not all roads are smooth when starting your own business but thankfully along the process, the fact that our products are unique and cannot be found anywhere else has made our products prosper. We have also worked very hard in making our brand name known by attending all fairs and events that are organized all around town! Due to the pandemic, we have ultimately been doing all orders online and have expanded to have our products in store at 1219 S. Shepherd Dr. in River Oaks.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The process of making our beautiful pet accessories begins with the artisanal workers in Mexico where our material is crafted by hand and put together with the designs we create to then be collaborated by hand. Once all products are made, we then go through the process of importing all products to the United States where we can then present and sell online and in store. We are proud that the designs of our products are made reality by artisanal workers.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The fact that our products are handmade and crafted by artisan workers makes it so unique you can only find these types of designs with us. With each sale of our products, we support as many pet shelters as possible in our home country of Mexico.
