Conversations with Alphonso Lloyd II

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alphonso Lloyd II.

Hi Alphonso, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was always into streetwear and fashion as a kid. I grew up loving and the style of artists like Lil Wayne and Kanye West. Being a fan of them made me very fond of brands like Bape and Supreme, 2 very globally known streetwear brands. As I got older I realized that brands like those did not have stores in Houston and the only way you could attain merchandise from brands like that were resale. I eventually got tired of always going to the mall just to go to 1 store (pac sun) because of their graphic tees and decided to come up with my own brand. I had never ever thought about doing it before so the challenge to do such was very exciting! I was always creative when I was younger so finding ways to direct that energy into clothing was something new and very fun. I came up with the name SEVR pronounced as “Severe” because it was focused on making a statement. Houston is worthy of streetwear too’! Houstonians have always had their own flavor and uniqueness to themselves and that’s something I wanted to focus on. When you’re Sevr you’re the baddest in the room. Your looks are going to bring attention to the room.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely was not a smooth road. Some struggles i faced on the way we’re relying on other people. There are a lot of steps in making a product where you’re going to have to put your trust in a lot of people. Sometimes certain items are not in stock that you planned to release so you have to make another plan. Models for my brand would not be the best with communication. With the obstacles I learned how to move ahead of schedule and how to identify people who were serious about modeling and being part of photo shoots.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Currently, I’m a server at one the most prestigious restaurants in Houston. Being a server allows me to meet many new people and work on my people skills which is necessary when running a business. I am a very good communicator and really good with talking to and understanding people. What sets me apart is the way I’m able to make other people feel comfortable and I allow them to be themselves around me.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I definitely would not be here today without the support of my Mom, My content manager Aja-Monee’, Tyreq Miles and my aunt. They have always kept me motivated and act as a council with any hard decisions or planning. A lot of my success contributes to them.
