Today we’d like to introduce you to Amalia Ohe.
Hi Amalia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I moved to Katy, Texas, from California in 2010 with no family nearby and no built in circle of friends. I went straight to work, met great people, and built connections, but I still missed the simple things: coffee with a friend, a girls’ night, laughing over dinner, or having someone to call when life felt a little heavy.
As I met more women in Katy and Fulshear, especially those who had moved here from somewhere else, I realized I was not alone. So many of us were trying to find our people. We wanted real friendships, not just familiar faces from work or school drop off. Inspired by the lighthearted spirit of Bad Moms, I created Bad Moms of Katy and Fulshear.
It started small. Coffee dates, dinners, events, and women saying, “I’m so glad I found this group.” As it grew, I saw that connection does not have an age limit and does not require someone to be a mom. I later changed the name to Bad Moms and Ladies of Katy and Fulshear so more women could feel welcome. Today, the group has grown to more than 8,000 members, but at its heart, it is still about helping someone feel less alone.
Somewhere along the way, that same love for people led me into Katy and Fulshear real estate. I met families who were moving here with the same questions and feelings I once had: Where do I begin? What area will feel like home? Who can I trust? I also met women and families who wanted to buy a home but felt overwhelmed, unsure, or afraid to take the first step.
That is why real estate means so much more to me than buying and selling houses. A move is often the start of a new season, sometimes exciting, sometimes emotional, and sometimes a little scary. Whether someone is buying their first home, moving up, downsizing, selling a home full of memories, or relocating out of state, I want them to feel seen, supported, and cared for.
My goal has always been the same: to meet people where they are and help them get where they want to go. Whether that means helping someone find a new friend, feel more connected in Katy or Fulshear, buy their first home, sell a home full of memories, or begin again somewhere new, I want every person I work with to feel genuinely seen, supported, and cared for.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenges has been learning that building a community is not always a smooth road. When you bring together thousands of women with different personalities, backgrounds, expectations, and life experiences, everyone may be looking for something a little different.
In the beginning, I think many women wondered, “Will we really meet up and become friends, or will this just be another online group?” That is a very real feeling, especially when putting yourself out there can feel uncomfortable. Not every event, conversation, or connection will be the right fit for every person, and that is okay.
I have learned that every group has its own personality and attracts a different kind of energy. I am part of several groups in the Katy and Fulshear area, and each one has a unique vibe. Bad Moms and Ladies of Katy and Fulshear is not meant to be everything for everyone. It is meant to be a welcoming space for the women who connect with it, show up as themselves, and are open to building genuine relationships.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My career in Katy and Fulshear real estate grew from the same passion that led me to build a community for women: helping people feel connected, supported, and confident in a new chapter. I work with buyers, sellers, and families who are relocating, upgrading, downsizing, or purchasing their first home. For me, real estate is never just about a transaction. It is about listening to where someone is in life, understanding where they hope to go, and helping them make a move that feels right for them.
What makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is seeing people feel like they belong. Whether it is a woman walking into one of our events and finding a new friend, a family finally feeling at home in their new house, or someone realizing they are not alone in a new season of life, those moments mean everything to me.
I love being able to bring people together and make them feel seen. Life can be busy, emotional, and sometimes lonely, especially when you are new to an area or starting over. Knowing that I can help create connection, confidence, and a sense of home is what truly fills my heart.
